YVONNE CHAKA CHAKA COLLABOES WITH WILL.I.AM

South African legendary songstress Yvonne Chaka Chaka will be taking the stage today in her home country to celebrate 25 years in the industry. The Umqomboti hitmaker announced on Friday that she had done a collabo with US rapper Will.i.am of the Black Eyed Peas.
The track, recorded in America is aimed at raising awareness on malaria.She told Sunday World that the song was recorded in two days and will be available to fans on the web, proceeds of which will go into fighting malaria.
The multi award-winning artist, who is a goodwill ambassador for the United Nations Children’s Fund, will also be raising money for communities battling malaria, HIV/Aids and poverty.
The collaboration comes ahead of her much anticipated Homeland tour which will see her sharing stages with top South African musicians such as Sipho “Hotstix” Mabuse, Lira and the St Stithians college marimba band.
“That cannot humble me more. You know, people I have met doing my humanitarian work and they’re coming to celebrate my 25 years in the industry and the humanitarian work that I’m doing.”

Australian-Sudanese model Ajak Deng has been predicted as the next supermodel five years after she fled her troubled African homeland with her family.
The 19-year-old refugee was said to be following in the footsteps of catwalk queen Naomi Campbell as she continues to leave her mark on the ramps.
"She is on her way to stardom," the Daily Telegraph quoted Stephen Bucknell, manager of Deng's modelling agency, FRM Model Management, as saying.
The African-Aussie stunner would soon adorn global newsstands as the latest face for the United Colours of Benetton campaign.
She is set to return Down Under in March for L'Oreal Fashion Week.

SHOCKER: RHYTHM CITY’S BAD GIRL IS AN INTROVERT

Moshidi Motshegwa isn’t at all like the nasty Naomi she plays in Rhythm City. In a recent interview with Sunday World, Moshidi revealed, “I don’t like doing interviews but I have no choice. It’s part of my job.
“But I sometimes think it would be easier if people just Googled me and got the whole story.”
She continues hesitantly: “I was born in Alexandra (during the revolutionary time) and have been in the industry for 16 years now.”
“When I was growing up I was a bit fat and not into athletics so I stuck to my books. There are piles and piles of books all around my house.
“The thing is, I have a passion for storytelling and stories.”
That explains why she didn’t study acting but rather literature.
“I’m very much into literature, especially about African women.”
Motshegwa never intended to become an actress.
“I wanted to be a literature professor. Even today, I still want to be one.”
She is currently reading for her masters in literature.
Motshegwa says acting just came naturally.
“It started when I was just 14 years old and I won a competition to go to America, where I wrote and acted out a monologue,” she says.
She has come a long way since then. She has been seen in many films and TV dramas, soapies and comedies.
You’d expect the funny girl to be an extrovert. but she is adamant she’s the quiet type.
“I’m actually an introvert – very shy – and like my own time and space. When I’m not working I’m at home relaxing.
“I tried once when I was still young to go and attend functions but I just didn’t fit in. So now I’m grown up and accept who I am.”
Moshidi is internationally known for playing Florence Nxumalo in the 2004 feature film Drum alongside Taye Diggs. She played the lead, Denzela Ledwaba, in the SABC2 police drama series Zero Tolerance from 2003 to 2006. Won the best actress in a TV drama Golden Horn award at the inaugural Saftas in 2006 for her role in the series.
She has also appeared in numerous TV shows, including Friends Indeed, Gaabo Motho, Flat 27, Generations, Justice For All, Joburg Blues, Behind the Badge, Ke Nnako, SOS, Hillside, The Lab and Jozi H. She also made a guest appearance in a 2003 episode of the American medical drama series ER. The introvert played Nelson Mandela’s daughter Zinzi in the 1997 made-for-TV movie Mandela and De Klerk.

KING OF SOUL TEDDY PENDERGRASS DIES. RIP.

The King Of Soul, singer Teddy Pendergrass, died at age 59 on Wednesday after a long battle with colon cancer. Pendergrass, who was paralyzed after a 1982 car accident, died in a Philly hospital eight months after undergoing colon cancer surgery and suffering through a difficult recovery.

In his prime in the 1970s, Pendergrass was one of the premier R&B singers in America, leading Harold Melvin & the Blue Notes to the top of the charts with indelible soul classics such as "If You Don't Know Me By Now" and "I Miss You."

You probably have heard "Love T.K.O." Unlike some of the other velvety Philly-sound singers such as Al Green, Pendergrass' deep baritone had a gritty, masculine edge that he worked out on seductive slow jams like "Feel the Fire, "Close the Door," "Come Go With Me," "Turn off the Lights" and "It's Time for Love." He created a new template for the modern R&B singer with his aggressive brand of soul and smooth, ladies-man image on songs that were sexually charged but never coarse or vulgar.

WOLE TO READ AFRICAN PLAYS ON BBC

Wole Soyinka will judge the 2010 BBC World Service African Drama competition.
The highly respected Nigerian professor, writer, poet, playwright and Nobel Literature Laureate will be on the panel of judges at the BBC World Service’s 50th season of African radio drama BBC African performance launch.
Listeners have until February 15, 2009 to enter their plays, which must be half an hour long when read aloud and have no more than six main characters.
Plays that are short-listed will be read by Soyinka, who will make the final decision. The winners will be announced on March 1, 2009.
Soyinko believes the BBC’s season of African radio drama penetrates Africa’s borders.
“In one fell swoop – they listen in Zimbabwe at the same time as in Sudan, South Africa, Nigeria and Sierra Leone,” he points out. “And this is definitely a crossing of boundaries in a way that even the written word on its own might not have.”
By way of celebrating five decades of African radio drama excellence on the BBC World Service, Soyinko has agreed to judge the contest this year.
BBC World Service English drama producer for Africa Jenny Horrocks says, “We are looking forward to new brilliant entries from our audiences.”

TUKU HONOURED WITH CULTURAL AMBASSADOR AWARD

Zimbabwe's biggest music stars Oliver Mtukudzi was last week honoured with a 2009 Cultural Ambassador Award in San Diego in the United States.
The award is sponsored by Project Concern International (PCI) charity, which works in Botswana, Ethiopia, Malawi, Tanzania, South Africa and Zambia in different community projects for people living with HIV/AIDS and other communicable diseases.
This is Mtukudzi’s first international award. The singer is currently in the UK where, he is set to share the stage with Thomas Mapfumo.

Wyclef is without a doubt the most sober celebrity who knows how to get himself talked about in the media. Forget the strip tease he did on the set of the MTV Africa Music Awards with Zain that is child's play.

SON OF K'OGELO GETS A NOBEL NOD

The Norwegian Nobel Committee on Friday 9, October, awarded the Nobel Peace Prize 2009 to US President Barack Obama.

The Nobel Peace Prize is an international prize which is awarded annually by the Norwegian Nobel Committee according to guidelines laid down in Alfred Nobel's will. The Peace Prize is one of five prizes that have been awarded annually since 1901 under the auspices of the Nobel Foundation in Stockholm for outstanding contributions in the fields of physics, chemistry, physiology or medicine, literature, and peace. Starting in 1969, a Sveriges Riksbank Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel has also been awarded.

Whereas the other prizes are awarded by specialist committees based in Sweden, the Peace Prize is awarded by a committee appointed by the Norwegian Storting. According to Nobel's will, the Peace Prize is to go to whoever "shall have done the most or the best work for fraternity between nations, for the abolition or reduction of standing armies and for the holding and promotion of peace congresses". The prize includes a medal, a personal diploma, and a large sum of prize money (currently 10 million Swedish crowns).

The Nobel Peace Prize has been called "the world's most prestigious prize". The Prize is awarded at a ceremony in the Oslo City Hall on December 10, the date on which Alfred Nobel died.

Laughable ha! Well it is not. The cocky Nigerian twin “broda’s” Peter and Paul Okoye are said to have dated the same girl - a Guinness World Record holder.
Kafayat Oluwatoyin Shafau, 29, is the lady in the middle of the love triangle. She danced her way into a Guinness World Record in 2006 at the Nokia Silverbird Danceathon.
Word of the love triangle emerged last month when close sources alleged the P Square duo first meet Kafayat on the set of their music video Roll It.
Both were immensely attracted to her. Paul went ahead and had a ‘secret amorous affair’ with her, according to reports.
At the same time, Peter harboured romantic feelings for the dancer. Interestingly, the Okoye twins, for the first time, did not share their feelings of their newfound ‘love’.
Nigerian media reports, Kafayat had a ‘swell time with Paul who was at that time lonely because his brother, Peter was already having an affair with Lola Omotayo, the then Celtel Telecommunications big gal who eventually had a son with him’, reported.
The affair later ended when Kafayat was caught in an uncompromising position with Peter in one of her visits to their house and Jude, their eldest brother intervened to protect the P Square brand name and make sure word of the love triangle did not get out. Well the truth is hard to suppress, better luck next time Jude.

TUFACE TALKS OF HIS FEAR OF HIV AND HIS WOMEN

This year’s four-time nominee for the MTV Africa Music Awards with Zain gave a very interesting interview to AfricaNews. Tuface talked about his five baby mamas and his thoughts on HIV Aids prevention.
The African Queen singer was asked whether having about his five children with five women, none of whom he is married to, is a good example for the younger generation? The charismatic Tuface who is used to the question took it in his stride. He said, “That’s the problem my dear friend. After struggling and suffering, you meet success and there you are with another trouble – women.”
But you should have used condoms, weren’t you scared of contracting HIV?
“Yeah, I knew I was supposed to protect myself. I knew I was supposed to be a responsible guy. But like I told you, women are just too powerful. You take your precautions, you get in, you lose your head and things get rough. There you are – pregnancy. But mind you, before going to bed with any babe we always undergo an HIV test. I can’t play with my life.”
And finally Tuface was asked, which of the five women, will you eventually wed. His response was, “That’s the big question. All five women are pretty and good; I don’t know whom to choose. And you know what, more are coming, oh, they’ll kill me.”

We were told how to act and what characters to portray. I am not done with the Tyra show yet, I will be going back.
