NEW DETS ABOUT BIGGIE 2011

M-Net has revealed the eye and name of it’s yet to be launched season of its popular Big Brother reality show. The dramatic new eye is etched in a carbon fibre background with an edgy, futuristic feeling and it has a sophisticated polished reflective finish. The newly unveiled show logo sets the scene for a bold new season, organizers have said.
The new season of the 91-day reality show which will be launched on May 1 will be called Big Brother Amplified. Running 91 days and 24/7 non-stop with a dream grand prize of USD200 000, the sixth season of Africa’s biggest reality show, according to organizers, will include more drama, emotions, excitement and suspense.
Biola Alabi, M-Net Africa Managing Director who heads up the channel’s initiatives across the continent said the new name fits perfectly with the magnitude of the reality show.

“By definition amplified means to increase the volume, to make louder, to make more powerful and that’s exactly what we want to do with season six. To take the elements that audiences find so fantastic and present them in a refreshing new way while adding big surprises and entertaining twists.” She explained.
Biola further added, “Amplified is such a well-known pop culture term and Big Brother has definitely become a pop culture success. So the name fits perfectly.”

With the deadline for entries now closed and the next phase of selection now well underway to choose housemates from the 14 participating countries (Angola, Botswana, Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, Nigeria, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe), Big Brother Amplified is on track to launch in little over a month!
“We received an unprecedented amount of entries this year,” said Alabi who added “It’s been truly phenomenal, with almost 7,000 written entries received from across the continent and countless more people attending the ‘last chance’ open auditions.

“We’ve had people from all walks of life from very different backgrounds with completely different aspirations …all take this one opportunity to enter Big Brother. It’s really heartening to see that if anything, the show is going from strength to strength,” Biola revealed.
Created and produced for M-Net by Endemol South Africa, the Big Brother Amplified series will once again be hosted by charismatic Nigerian, IK Osakioduwa, who has been at the heart of the action since he joined the show two seasons ago.
With a brand new house also under construction, it’s a matter of weeks before Big Brother Amplified will be launched.

HEART TO HEART WITH YACOB

By now y'all know that Yacob left the Big Brother All Star, and i totally get why he left. Of what use is it to stay on after Africa gives you the boot?
Anyho, in a telephone interview from Johannesburg, Yacob told Hot Secrets that he would stay on if Biggie offered to compensate him for the time spent at the Barn.
The Ethiopian representative answered a few of my questions.

So, what do you think about Mwisho's utterances where he called all the housemates losers for returning to the show?
I don't know if loser is the right term but if you look at all the housemates, we are all up coming in the respective fields, we still haven't made it and are aspiring. Ans since we did not have a busy schedule it was okay to have three months out of your life to do this.

All in all how would you describe your experience in the reality show?
It was a great experience. People shouldn't judge before they experience it live in a house without TV, magazines or radio. It's an experience and a half.

The de-motivated Yacob cited the fact that his brother couldn’t visit him at the barn after the eviction from the Big Brother House added to why he opted out. On his argument with the female barn mates, Sheila, Tatiana and Lerato, Yacob said that he hoped that he he had resolved the ridge between them before he left.
He also stated that the only time other time he will return to star in a Big Brother production is if it’s a Big Brother UK or US, “not Big Brother Africa, it’s done for me.”

The countries that voted to save Munya were: Botswana, Ghana, Malawi, Namibia, South Africa, Tanzania, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Uganda and the Rest of Africa. The countries that voted to save Sheila were: Angola, Ethiopia, Kenya, Mozambique and Nigeria.

TEDDY MUTHUSI’S STRATEGY TO KEEP SHEILA IN THE HOUSE

Former Big Brother Africa housemate Teddy Muthusi has stepped up to the plate to ensure this year’s Kenyan representative brings home the $200,000.
Teddy told Hot Secrets, “As our Kenyan girl Sheila Kwnboka continues to fly the Kenyan flag high, I think Kenyans could back her up with some clever voting strategies.”
His theory is simple. “Keep the weak ones in, get the strong ones out.”
This week Sheila is head of house.
On Tuesday, Biggie challenged the housemates to audition for a science fiction movie called “Supermodels from Mars”. The housemates will be required to stretch their imagination, exercise their creativity and have some ‘out of this world’ fun.
Each housemate is expected to design and make an ‘Outrageous Outfit from Outer Space’ and create a character for themselves and a way of acting and speaking, for the audition. The Barnmates will also be competing in this task.

After Head of House Sheila read out the task to the housemates twice, they decided to wager 100 percent on their success. A few dissenting voices were heard, asking to wager 75% instead, but Tatiana reminded them that they had done very well in last week’s Eggstravaganza task, so this week’s would be easy. When Sheila claimed that the majority of housemates had agreed on the 100% wager, Big Brother questioned her about the dissenters. Sheila explained that 7 of the housemates had wanted to wager 100%, while 4 wished to reduce the wager to 75%.

Big Brother told her to go back and read the task to the housemates again to make sure that everyone understood what was expected of them. After carefully checking everything again, all of the housemates concluded that a 100% wager was the way to go.
23 days down and 68 to go.
Keep voting. This week, Munya and Tatiana are up for eviction – and it’s up to you to keep your favourite housemate in the game.

TEDDY ADDS MORE CLOUT FOR ‘TEAM SHEILA’

Even with ‘patriotic’ calls to have Sheila Kwamboka home in time for the August 4 referendum on social sites like Facebook and Twitter, hardcore supporters are sticking up for Kenya’s rep in the Big Brother All Stars season.
So far, two of Sheila’s bosom buddies Capital FM’s Laura Walubengo and Kiss TV’s DNG have declared their unwavering support, now, former BBA contestant Teddy Muthusi has joined the wagon. “I am behind Sheila all the way in spirit and in vote. More people should get behind ‘Team Sheila’. Hands down she stands a really good chance,” Teddy told Hot Secrets.
“Kenyans sometimes get too good at talking the talk and not walking the walk, while guys from countries like Nigeria and South Africa vote like crazy. We should also stop being pretenders and stop negativities on Sheila’s sexuality or drinking. Sometimes we like acting holier than thou. ‘Ye without sin, cast the first stone’ People should remember BBA is rated 18, I love her all, this is me na uta do? I mean, Africa loves her as it is,” he said.
Adding that if you find sending an SMS too expensive which it actually is not, there is an option of voting for Sheila on the Big Brother All Star website.
“If they feel voting is too much work, then keep sending messages that scroll on the bottom of screen. This will create a psychological effect all over Africa and get more peeps on the 'Sheila Wagon',” Teddy concluded.

AND BIGGIE'S HOTTIES ARE ...

SHEILA – KENYA
It was on Big Brother Africa 3 that African television audiences met Kenyan television reporter Sheila for the first time.
Now the 25-year-old, who works as a writer, director, actor and emcee, is back for a new season and when asked what she is going to do to make sure she isn’t voted out this time she says: “Just be as smart as possible. I hope there will be conspiring. I’m not really good at that but I’ll give it my best shot.”
Listing her good qualities as: “I’m caring and passionate’, Sheila says that if her friends had to name one of her worst qualities, it would be that she is super impatient. She also says that one of her bad habits is procrastination.
Her message to viewers is: “I know you’ll enjoy watching me”. With a personal motto that reads: “It’s never that serious”, Sheila describes herself as a people person. “Even if we don’t speak the same language, I’ll always find our common denominator.”
Asked about her special talent Sheila says: “I’m good at making you feel good about yourself.”
An admirer of efficiency, the Nairobi-born housemate dislikes: “People with no foresight, no ambition.” Commenting on what makes her laugh out loud she says: “People who try to figure me out. I’m still trying to figure me out.”

TATIANA – ANGOLA
29-year-old Tatiana from Luanda says her weirdest moment ever was her first day in the Big Brother Africa 2 house. The TV presenter, actress and model, whose motto is: “never give up”, says that if she could teach the world one thing it would be to: “love one another.”
Given the chance Tatiana would love to spend a day with Madonna because: “I’ll like to drink from her experience”. The Angolan likes passion and dislikes jealousy. She says that some of her good qualities are that she is enthusiastic, ambitious, honest and kind however her friends would say she is stubborn.
Asked what her message to viewers is, Tatiana says: “thanks for being there for me since we met 3 years ago. I love my fans.”
She wants her Big Brother experience to be fun, beautiful, relaxing, amazing and happy and says that audiences should watch her on Big Brother because she is real, fun, original, creative, warm, humble, loving. She also reveals that some of the things that make her happy is to see other people happy, travelling, having fun and being in love.
And when asked what she would do to make sure she wasn’t voted out again, she says.
“I will be stronger and more determined.”

MERYL – NAMIBIA
24-year-old event organizer Meryl, of Big Brother Africa 2 fame, describes herself as an outspoken person who doesn’t mind people talking about her. “Such things make me stronger mentally and emotionally.” The Namibian says that if she could teach the world one thing, it would be: “We are all one big family and its time we started getting along.”
Asked what she likes and Meryl says: “Having people around me and learning new things” while she dislikes: “People that have bad things to say about others and gossiping”. She goes on to say that one of her good qualities is that she’s a good listener though she reveals that her friends would say that one of her worst qualities is that she trusts too fast.
In terms of why she wanted to be on Big Brother again Meryl says: “I have a lot to show people about myself and others have more to learn about my country. Entertainment is my middle name and I can give a lot of it.”
And her message to viewers is straight-forward: “Take a good look this time and don’t make hasty decisions as it will cost you greatly with entertainment. Don’t judge a book by its cover.”
On the topic of why audiences should watch her on Big Brother, she says: “Drama, intrigue, fun, suspense, entertainment and I’m a whole lot of woman! I have a personality that others might find as outspoken and loud but it will surely keep you glued to your televisions”.

LERATO – SOUTH AFRICA
Johannesburg resident Lerato, who made her first appearance on Big Brother Africa in season 2, describes herself as a fierce and feisty party starter! The 26-year-old, who labels her clothing style as Urban Afropolitan, says her favourite quote is from the movie Forest Gump: “Life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you gonna get.”
In the new season of Big Brother Lerato says that her strategy in the house will be:
“To choose my battles wisely and not let emotions get the best of me (although that’s almost impossible).” Speaking about her expectations of her Big Brother experience, she reveals that she would like it to be life-changing, fun, scary, awesome and enlightening.
Confirming that she is sometimes temperamental and that’s her bad habit, Lerato’s message to viewers is simple: “What you see is what you get. What you’ll be seeing is me carrying on with my day-to-day activities but you’ll have the front row seat to it all.”
Asked why she wanted to return to Big Brother Africa, she says: “Because I have a second chance at playing an interesting game.” She encourages audiences to watch her on Big Brother because: “I’m an unpredictable fire-cracker! You never know what you gonna get.”

JEN – MOZAMBIQUE
23-year-old Jen from Maputo became the first housemate in the history of Big Brother Africa to leave the series voluntarily during the Big Brother Revolution last year. This season she’s back and she says: “This is a second opportunity for me, so I am going in there with all that I have.”
Listing her good qualities, she says that she’s optimistic, a strong woman, loving and caring, independent and free spirited. A graduate with a Bachelor’s Degree in International Politics, her message to viewers is: “Please watch the Big Brother house and vote for me”.
Jen also reveals that one of the things that really irritates her is racism: “because we are all the same as humans, so to compare one another by race, it’s ridiculous and stupid.” She also says she really hates waiting, dirt and people who are rude and think they are better than others.
Asked if she would do anything differently in the house this time she says: “No, I will keep being myself” and she says that she wanted to be on the new season of Big Brother: “to finish what I started.”
Asked about her ambitions for 2010, the Mozambican who speaks four languages (Portuguese, French, English and Spanish) says: “Win this year’s Big Brother Africa, buy a house and establish my own business.”

PALOMA – ZAMBIA
One time sales consultant and former Big Brother Revolution housemate, 26-year-old Paloma describes herself in 3 sentences. “I am a nice and sweet person and I can also be mean. Live life to the fullest like tomorrow will never come. And I also believe in my culture and religion.”
The Kitwe resident says that the 3 things she really hates are: “Un-cleanliness, laziness, and leaving the toilet seat up.” She says that her good qualities are that she likes helping people out and is very generous but acknowledges that if her friends were asked about her worst quality, they would list her temper.
Asked if she would do anything differently this time around she says: “yes, keep my opinions and ideas to myself.” She says she wanted to be on the new season because she believes she deserves a second chance.
Commenting on how her life will be changed by appearing on the show again, Paloma says: “It will take a dramatic turn and I guess some people will like it, others won’t but tough luck.”
Her message to viewers on the new season of Big Brother Africa is: “Watch me turn the tables upside down in the house.”

DNG URGES KENYANS TO SUPPORT KWAMBOX

It seems like 'Team Sheila' is growing by the day. Now, self proclaimed Kenya’s number one Hypeman, is shouting from rooftops urging people to cast a vote in Sheila Kwamboka's favour.
Kiss TV and Radio presenter DNG who is also a bossom buddy to the Kenyan Big Brother All Star's rep wishes her all the best in the reality show.

LAURA WALUBENGO TALKS ABOUT SHEILA'S GAME PLAN!

At the screening of the Big BRother All Stars on the premierE night, Sunday July 18, it was mentioned that radio personality Laura Walubengo would be heading the 'Team Sheila' group.
This was to ensure that Kenyans vote unanimously for the countries rep, Sheila Kwamboka.
However, Laura told Hot Secrets "That chairlady thing - I don't think it was serious... It wasn't discussed with me and I had no clue, so unless you clarify with the organisers...?"
Anyho, Laura was tight with Sheila and she talked a bit about what the biggie housemate's game plan is.
"I know, Sheila doesn't have a plan. She will take it as it comes and be herself. She told me that. Personally, I think compe is tough! But fingers crossed!"
Laura down played reports that she and Sheila were at loggerheads and simply put, she added, "We are on good terms, yes. I will vouch for her as a pal, I'm sure many of her tight pals will do the same."
On that note, please vote for Sheila Kwamboka. Go Team Sheila Go! People please be more patriotic and stop posting clever Facebook post like "Kenyans please vote out Sheila Kwamboka out of BBA5, she needs come home by August and vote for the referendum!"
Yes it's funny but....

BEFORE BIG BROTHER LAUNCHES MEET THE 'POSIBLE' HOUSEMATES

I nearly got my head bitten off for running with this list on my daily column, Word Is on The Star.
Well, it is what it is. However, the grapevine is a buzz with who the housemates for the fifth Big Brother All Stars is.
As you all know, this year’s edition of the voyeuristic reality show, will feature contestants have been drawn from the 61 participants of the four previous series.
Kenya’s rep is Sheila Kwamboka My source told Hot Secrets Sheila and the other contestants are all in South Africa.
“Their minders do not allowed them to watch news on TV or read newspapers but they can watch movies,” the source said, “The contestants haven’t meet and they do not know that the others are also housed in the same hotel.”
Apparently other news sources around the continent have released their own list of contestants set to be the stars in the house from Sunday. On the list is Nigeria’s Uti Nwachukwu, Uganda's Hannington Kuteesa, Namibia's Meryl Shikwambane, Ghana’s Sammy B and South Africa's Lerato Sengadi.
Zimbabwean press disqualify Tapuwa Mhere who was a housemate in the maiden show because she is now beyond the participating age so is Bertha Zakeyo, who featured in the 2007 edition of the show. Leaving Munyaradzi Chidzonga, Itai Makumbe and Kristal Culverwell as the suitable candidates.
The 14 housemates will spend 91 days cooped up in the house and battling for viewers' votes - their only ticket to the $200000 (Sh16.2 million) prize.
