A few names to strut the
runway this evening will be Deepa Dosaja, Nairobi born, who recently presented
her “My Flowers” Collection at the New York Fashion Week, as well as dressing
Lupita Nyong’o. Sally Karago will be displaying her ware as well. Sally is both
Chairlady of the Association of Fashion Designers of Kenya (AFAD) and director
of the Mcensal School of Fashion. Her collections have been presented in
London, New York and South Africa. Another star is Aprelle Duany, who left a
prominent corporate career to start her luxury leather brand Aprelleduany. In
2016, Aprelle showcased at Award-winning Nolcha platform for emerging designers
at NYFW and was a HEVA Fund Recipient.
The evening will kick off
with a gourmet four-course dinner with delicacies such as Smoked Salmon Caviar,
Sous Vide Beef Fillet and the Signature Decadent Chocolate Dome. As the evening
evolves, Mochez models will take to the catwalk in designs from the latest
collections of Kenyan clothing and accessory designers. From 11.30am, many more
designers will be open to the public with their pop-up shops, and to the event
guests throughout the evening.
Part of the ticket sales will
go to the Human Needs Project in Kibera, whose objective is to provide basic
services (laundry services, showers, clean drinking water, toilets, high-speed
internet and classrooms) to Kibera residents. Almost a quarter million people
have used the facilities to date. The Kibera residents will be represented by
young music artists who will be performing on this occasion. Their music ranges
from R&B, Hip Hop to Reggae, expressing the struggles of life.
The event is orchestrated by Lisa Christoffersen and
Daniela Cellini. Lisa
Christoffersen is renown for her safari
essentials line and self-designed pashmina shawls and jewelry, which
she will be showcasing on this occasion. Daniela Cellini of Outside the Lines Events is
a professional event designer with years of experience in Miami, Italy and
Kenya.
