WHEN CELEBS WENT BAREFOOT

Several high profile Kenyan celebrities and personalities kicked off their shoes and went barefoot for charity. The Natembea (walking) campaign aims to raise awareness on the importance of footwear in Kenya. In remote parts of Kenya, buying shoes is seen as a luxury to many and not treated as a priority. This leaves the kids exposed to the dangers of walking barefoot most of their lives.

They grow up barefoot, play barefoot, go school barefoot and even visit the latrines barefoot. This is the reason why the Natembea campaign is using the personalities and celebrities to raise awareness about the issue and help raise funds to buy shoes for over 5000 children this year.

The celebs and personalities include Kiss 100’s Sanaipei Tande, Rita Oyier Marketing Executive for Sameer Agriculture and Livestock limited, Hot 96 Breakfast Presenter Nick Ndeda, Safaricom CEO Bob Collymore, PR Guru Gina Din Kariuki,

Citizen TV news anchor Julie Gichuru, Former radio presenter Eve D Souza, K24’s Jeff Koinage, Anto Neosoul, CEO KCB Group Dr. Martin Oduor-Otieno, MP Martha Karua and football captain Dancan Otieno of SID FC.

On Julie’s Facebook page, she writes about the campaign: “You can always make a difference. A group of young Kenyans had a vision to give every Kenyan child the opportunity to own a decent pair of shoes under the banner of The Natembea Campaign. They communicated with me and with the support of Safaricom and Bata we delivered 1,000 pairs of shoes to students in Kyaume School, Kangundo.”

SANAIPEI TALKS ABOUT SAKATA 2 AND MANGA

Kiss 100’s Sanaipei Tande is one of the judges in the TV dance show Sakata 2 on Citizen TV. As a former reality show contestants herself, Sana told Hot Secrets about the feelings of déjà Vu that come with her new position on the show.
“The experience is really two sided. One moment I’m loving the fact that I’m a part of this very successful piece of entertaining and life changing experience for both myself and the contestants but the difficulty and tension that comes with deciding which team has to go and which team pulls through is mind-blowing. I don’t seem to be getting used to it,” Sana said.
“It definitely brings back Pop Star memories and emotions. I’ve realized that the as a (former) contestant and a first time judge you go through similar emotions, the anticipation to win, the stage fright, the preparation to do your best etc. but I cant lie I’m glad I’m on the other side this time round.”
Of late the Najuta star has been spotted with her ex-boyfriend Manga. It had been reported last year that the couple has called it quits. Commenting on the new found closeness with her ex beau, Sana explained, “ Let’s just say this time round, Manga and Sana will let people think and decide what they want.”
Sana is planning on releasing more of her music to this year but in the meantime she is taking over the Karaoke scene. You can catch her on Tuesdays at Tamasha Hurlingham and on Thursday’s at Club Legend from 8pm to midnight.

The album is the fourth attempt by Redsan released under Dutty Sounds Records, Monalisa Entertainment and Miami Vibe.
“The album, like it’s name describes the diversity in the genres of music and artistes featured in it.” The album boasts of collaborations with music industry heavy weights like Brick and Lace, AY, Collo, Shinde of Tattu and Kiss 100’s Sanaipei Tande.”
Redsan's US based management company Monalisa Entertainment and Miami Vibe are responsible for Keri Hilson’s concert in Nairobi.

Brick and Lace during the December launch

Keri recently told MTV News her travels to Africa would influence her next album, No Boys Allowed, slated for a late-2010 release.
"I've been to Nigeria, I've been to South Africa, three cites in Africa [in all]. I gather music from these regions, and African music is very drum-heavy. It was very inspiring. I'm definitely going to be using some of that inspiration."

CHIZI TO LAUNCH SECOND ALBUM

Self proclaimed crown prince of benga will launch his sophomore album in July 30 at the prestigious Kenya National Museum grounds. Dan ‘Chizi’ Aceda has titled his album Benganology because, “I am convinced that Benga is the music of the gods! I think it’s the true music of Kenya. So I dedicated the entire album to creating a fusion that would reach all other genres that I am better versed in like reggae, RnB, jazz and hip hop. Still I am so happy now that it’s come out as a catch phrase and is running all over the cyberspace,” Chizi chimed.
The album features a collabo with Eric Wainaina dubbed Guns and Arrows which Chizi decribes as “extremely poignant”, then there's my collabo with Wyre, Doris Onyango and Sanaipei Tande.
The concert will be recorded and packaged as a live DVD. Entrance to the show is set at Sh 800, which includes a free souvenir copy of the album or Sh 500 for ticket only.
