JIMMY GAIT TO BUILD HOUSES FOR IDPS

Gospel singer Jimmy Gait recently took his philanthropic campaign of Make It Or Make It to the internally displaced families in Kieni Forest’s Huruma Village.
Jimmy together with Expansion International are planning to build houses for the IDPs but they are at a crossroad because, they do not have the land to build on. They currently live in semi permanent structures.

The event, saw various artistes appeal to the government to provide land for the construction to take place to fully settle the IDPs who have been living in the forest for 11 years now.
Jimmy who recently released the remix to Furi Furi dance featuring Safaricom CEO Bob Collymore, TV personalities Julie Gichuru and Jeff Koinange, will use the single to raise funds.

“The single can be downloaded by Safaricom subscribers, all they have to do is download it by SMSing ‘Jimmy Gait’ and sending it to 8025,” he said.

After the successful Kenyans for Kenya initiative drive that saw corporates and Kenyans from all walks of life come together to raise funds for our needy Kenyans from the north, Juliani adds to the kitty by rallying support from other celebrities through the Kama Si Sisi ‘Celebrities for Kenya’ Challenge to raise more funds for the initiative.

Valerie Kimani

Last month, hiphop artistes, singers, TV news personalities joined Juliani, through his Kama Si Sisi ‘Celebrities for Kenya’ Challenge at the famous Ranalo Foods (K'Osewe) restaurant located along Kimathi street for a noble cause by serving as waiters. On the day, they raised funds that went into feeding the hunger stricken Kenyans in Turkana.

Benefiting the Kenyans for Kenya Initiative, the likes of Safaricom’s CEO Bob Collymore, Nonini, Nameless, Avril, Eric Omondi, Jeff Koinange, BMF, John Allan Namu, Pierra Makena among other celebrities took orders from the customers and in the same breath distributed informative fliers urging them to contribute to the cause by tipping their services.

“As an extension of our contribution as musicians through the Kilio song that was used to drive the fundraising campaign, we would like to rally other artists and celebrities to contribute further by raising funds through this one day initiative” Juliani said.

WHEN CELEBS WENT BAREFOOT

Several high profile Kenyan celebrities and personalities kicked off their shoes and went barefoot for charity. The Natembea (walking) campaign aims to raise awareness on the importance of footwear in Kenya. In remote parts of Kenya, buying shoes is seen as a luxury to many and not treated as a priority. This leaves the kids exposed to the dangers of walking barefoot most of their lives.

They grow up barefoot, play barefoot, go school barefoot and even visit the latrines barefoot. This is the reason why the Natembea campaign is using the personalities and celebrities to raise awareness about the issue and help raise funds to buy shoes for over 5000 children this year.

The celebs and personalities include Kiss 100’s Sanaipei Tande, Rita Oyier Marketing Executive for Sameer Agriculture and Livestock limited, Hot 96 Breakfast Presenter Nick Ndeda, Safaricom CEO Bob Collymore, PR Guru Gina Din Kariuki,

Citizen TV news anchor Julie Gichuru, Former radio presenter Eve D Souza, K24’s Jeff Koinage, Anto Neosoul, CEO KCB Group Dr. Martin Oduor-Otieno, MP Martha Karua and football captain Dancan Otieno of SID FC.

On Julie’s Facebook page, she writes about the campaign: “You can always make a difference. A group of young Kenyans had a vision to give every Kenyan child the opportunity to own a decent pair of shoes under the banner of The Natembea Campaign. They communicated with me and with the support of Safaricom and Bata we delivered 1,000 pairs of shoes to students in Kyaume School, Kangundo.”
