Ruby Cup Ambassadors In Attempt To Revolutionize The Ladies Attitude Towards Other Menstrual Alternatives.​



With the rising number of feminists in Kenya, SaWA was yet again graced by another activist and feminist in the role model session.

Meet Rachel Mwikali, a 25 year old Women Rights Activist and Feminist, grassroots gender issues consultant and Brand ambassador for Ruby cup. Ms. Mwikali shared her experiences with SaWA ladies on her life journey, struggles and achievement.

Born and raised in Mathare slums in Nairobi, Ms. Mwikali is a Grassroots Women Rights Activist. She coordinates a Pan-African Grassroots Women Liberation Movement, which works to unite Grassroots African Women and empowers them to take up leadership positions. Rachael has been at the forefront in empowering women in informal settlements to take up leadership in the society. She works towards changing patriarchal systems and other societal systems that work against women. She is motivated by the personal struggles she has undergone as a young woman growing up in an informal settlement.

She was awarded the We Effect’s first Lobbyist for Change Award in Stockholm Sweden for her fight for Young Women’s Rights.

Amaia Arranz, the Ruby Cup CEO was also one of the role models and mentor. “Women and girls affected by poverty face problems during their periods because they simply cannot afford menstrual care products. Without proper sanitary products, girls and women are forced to use unsafe substitutes like mud, old rags or old newspapers, which do not absorb well and often carry serious health implications in terms of infections and diseases quite simply, Ruby Cup makes a world of difference.” Amaia Arranz addressed the ladies during the role model session.

SaWA ladies learnt how they can combine a business school idea with passion to create a product that can generate income, empower the society and conserve the environment. The fifth session included free distribution of the Ruby Cups to the ladies. This exercise was spearheaded by Ms. Mwikali and Ms. Arranz the Brand Ambassador and explained to them the pros and cons of using the cups.
