The winners of the 2011 Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle
Awards have been announced. The prizes were presented in a ceremony held on
March 19 at A Noise Within in Pasadena.
Edi Gathegi walked away with a Lead Performance Awards
together with Sam Anderson, Anne Gee Byrd, L. Scott Caldwell and Lisa O'Hare.
The award Edi won was due to a theatre production in the
Geffen Playhouse.
It has been a hub of the Los Angeles theater scene since
opening its doors in 1995. Noted for its intimacy and celebrated for its
world-renowned mix of classic and contemporary plays, provocative new works and
musicals, the Geffen Playhouse continues to present a body of work that has
garnered national recognition.
Named in honor of entertainment mogul and philanthropist
David Geffen, who made the initial donation to the theater, the company is
helmed by Producing Director and President of the Board Gilbert Cates, Artistic
Director Randall Arney, Managing Director Ken Novice and Chairman of the Board
Frank Mancuso.
Edi is know for the roles he has played in several successful
box office movies like Twilight: New Moon as vampire Laurent.
The Kenyan born actor was also in two feature films, the
literary adaptation, Atlas Shrugged: Part I and the X-Men: First Class.
