Controversial personality Toxic wears many hats, from socialite to dancer turned singer. She spoke to Hot Secrets about her European tour, the love of her life, and her latest music project.

How is fame treating you?

Well, fame for me is somehow a bitch. So, I like to ignore the fact that it exists.

What was the idea behind the Independent Video?

Independent is a song I wrote some time back when I was still dealing with another single I had just released and it didn’t do well in the market. But I’m a fighter. I don’t give up. If you listen to its lyrics, it highlights on dancing and the independence of a woman. I wanted to bring out the two factors. Something that is different.

Are you recording any collabos?

Well, as for collabos, I won’t say much right now but i can say for sure I have a few lined up. Until I have at least had the song concept laid out and we have started recording with the artists, ill keep it close to my chest.

You are touring Europe right now, how is that like?

I have been to the UK for two weeks and its not bad. For some weird reason it felt no different from home apart from the good roads and trains and fast Internet speeds.

What shows are lined up for you there?

I have had a couple of shows here in Germany, where I am based. Recently, I performed in Augsburg, Gutersloh and I am currently getting ready to curtain raise for Awilo Longomba in his show here in Hamburg in December. I am still meeting new promoters in the field and I am sure I will have more shows with time.

What is the last book you enjoyed reading…

To be honest, I’m not much of a book reader but the book I want to buy this year is The Power of a Praying Wife. I hear its nice and I think I’d love to read it.

People think I’m this arrogant bitch who thinks she has her way with everything.

Being raped.

My ideal night out is…

If you asked me that 2 years ago, I’d tell you partying out with my gals in Westlands, but now, a quiet dinner with my man and a bit of dancing would do perfect for me.

Meeting different people with different characters, from different walks of life hence learning new things from them.

Ahhhh… i guess this is where Martha Karua falls under. I admire her guts and if all women were like her - confidence wise - Kenya would be on a different level.

I regret meeting the man of my dreams recently. I wish I’d met him years ago.

My engagement ring.

ISSUES WITH STL COLLABO’S WITH D-BLACK?

Kenyan rapper based in Norway STL recorded a single with Celebrity Ambassador to the U.N in Ghana D-Black but is yet to hear the final product.
STL told Hot Secrets she hasn’t listened to the single since it was recorded, when I asked her about it.
“Well, I don't want to comment or say anything about this collabo because I really don't have a clue on what's happening with it. I haven't even heard the song!” The Smile star then added, “So there is unfinished business here.”
The single will be featured in rapper D-Black’s debut solo album titled Music, Love & Life set for a September 24 exclusive worldwide digital release through Rockstar 4000.



D Black – real name Desmond Kwesi Blackmore - was recently signed to Rockstar 4000 Music Entertainment and is also a music business entrepreneur and executive producer.
In a release, D-Black said, “Music is my first love and this album is music from the heart, mind and soul. I believe in African unity and collaborations so this album has a lot of collabo’s with artists from around the world.”
Other big names featured on this album include Wyclef Jean (Haiti / USA), Khuli Chana (South Africa), Tay Grin (Malawi), Segal (Gabon), Buffalo Souljah (Zimbabwe), 2 Face Idibia (Nigeria), Sauce Kid (Nigeria), M.I (Nigeria), Zeus (Botswana) and from Ghana - former BBA contestant Kwaku-T, Sarkodie, Samini and Kwabena Kwabena among others.

WYCLEF SHEDS TEARS AT HAITI FUND CONTROVERSY

Haitian born Wyclef Jean held a press conference to dispel rumors that his Yele Haiti foundation had misused funds and failed to properly file its taxes. "If you're a man with a clear conscience, speak with a clear conscience and the world will know," Wyclef said to an audience of reporters. "The books are open. We have a clean bill of health from an auditor."
This came after The Smoking Gun published a report accusing Jean of using Yele Haiti funds for his own personal use and failing to file tax returns in a timely manner.


Wyclef lashed out at the rumours. "Have I made mistakes? Yes," Jean said at the news conference. "Did I ever use Yele money for personal benefits? Absolutely not."
With tears rolling down his cheeks, the star host at last year’s MTV Africa Music Award ceremony in Kenya insisted the money will be put to good use. "I was the one carrying the little girls to the morgue. In reality, my people are dying. I have to go back for relief. I do not cry for myself. I cry for them," the star said.

In a moving pre-Christmas message on his website, the former Fugees wrote about Haiti and hope: "At times when I go to Haiti I ask myself what would have happen if I never made it to America? What would I be doing right now? What if I never became Wyclef, and Wyclef was getting on the plane today to come to Haiti to bring me food and Christmas Gifts how would I feel.
When I reflect on such things, it makes me understand that to live for others is the none selfish way to live. At times we are so caught up with ourselves that we forget about those around us. Some say they can’t help the needy because they have no money to give to the poor. I say no one gave me money, in the hut they gave me hope."

The allegations threaten to derail a charity effort that has been overwhelmingly successful since the 7.0 earthquake struck 8 miles beneath Port-au-Prince, causing massive devastation and an estimated 100,000 casualties. Yele reportedly pulled in over Sh76 million in the disaster's first 36 hours, and the foundation now counts its donation base at "several million dollars."

Socialite and dancer Toxic is up in arms after a report in a local daily branded her Wycliff Jean’s chips funga.
A chips funga or bhajia funga or take away is Nairobi slang for a one-night stand. “Everyone who was there knows that Wyclef was interested in one of my pals not me.”
She said that the said relationship between former Fugees star and the Toxic dancer was not clandestine, “He introduced her to some guys after The MAMAs as “my girlfriend” and he called her just the other day.”
On the reports, Toxic whose real name is Juliet Kwamboka said, “It is a lie. What they published is wrong I can’t have my relationship jeopardised over misleading reports.”
Toxic has kept a low profile recently mostly because of her new beau. “I wouldn’t mind if he wasn’t in my life but now he is. This could get in the way of my relationship.

Wyclef is without a doubt the most sober celebrity who knows how to get himself talked about in the media. Forget the strip tease he did on the set of the MTV Africa Music Awards with Zain that is child's play.

For instance he pulled a ‘Kanye’. He went down stairs (at Kasarani) and pulled the head chef out of the kitchen and brought him on set of the MAMA stage. “Hey y’all this is not scripted. I went and took a chef who has been cooking for all of us. We can’t ignore the drought situation in Africa. I want to ask the chef what kind of aid Kenya needs because when the aid is sent the people of Africa are not seeing the money.” The Chef replied, “What we need is a sea so that we don’t have to rely on outside food.”

His eloquence and wit did not stop there. After a short blackout that interrupted the sound when nameless was performing, Wyclef had to redo the introductory part where he introduces Nameless. Just as the set up was going on he filled the silence by talking to music guru Jerry ‘Wonder’ Duplessis, who was standing behind him. “Yo, Jerry you need to stop smoking weed, you are loosing too much weight.”

And the finale shot from Wyclef is when D Banj accepted his award for artiste of the year. He told him, “Stay level headed, don’t go crazy on me like Lauryn Hill did,” while throwing in a little marketing for himself, “My album comes out in March 2010.”
