CALIF RECORDS UNVEILS GOSPEL DEPARTMENT

There is a new department in the record label that has been associated with creating a new music movement, Genge, in the country. Calif Records has created a new segment for the gospel acts signed to the label. Thomas Mahondo, the Head of Operations for the label, said, “With the popularity of gospel music, Calif had to oblige and create a department. So far we are working with a number of acts whom we will reveal at a later date.”
The lead artiste from that section of the label is JemmoH among his releases is Flow (Revelation 4).

The label is also pushing two other acts to join the long list of hit makers like Jua Cali, Mejja, Kendi and Qta-C.
Singer turned producer Alpha Msanii is now back to reclaim his spot in the music arena. "I started out as an artiste before I became a studio engineering technician. I suppose Clemmo saw the interest I had in that area and offered to develop that in me. Now I want to explore the artiste part of me."
Alpha is the act that gave you the love track Msanii with the lovely Laety and Ushapoteza with Qta-C. Calif's newbie Ala-C has already released a slow RnB track with Kendi. At only 19, he has grabbed the attention of fans with his single and is thankful for getting the chance to collaborate with Kendi. He says of his hit song, "It is a love song and I’m telling my love interest where I have come from and expressing my feelings on the stuff we have gone through together."

Calif Records to open radio station

Calif Records are hatching plans to set up a community radio station. The record labels’ PR rep Thomas Muhondo said, “This is a reaction to the much needed much-needed platform for local music. We are providing one which will feature strictly local content.”
However nothing is ready yet, “ We don’t have a time line yet because of the bureaucracy that goes into getting a frequency and the licence. We are doing community radio as something national would demand a huge investment. However, with time that will be the eventual plan.”

Producer claims Sanaipei and Calif short changed him

RnB diva Sanaipei Thande and Big shot production house Calif Records are being accused of plagarism but have come out fighting.
Producer Ruff Enuff is accusing the two of using his original composition to come up with the song Najuta. Ruff claims he produced the song in 2007 before the election and gave the copy of the CD to the Sanaipei.
“I’m a bitter man, Sanaipei did not pay for the track and has not called me ever since,” he said adding that the Calif Records production that was released is a “a copy and paste of my original track. The only difference is that they changed the last part, where I had used live violins and I guess they couldn’t get one to do that for them.”
Ruff says the song he produced was also titled Najuta and all that he wants is for his track to be rightfully credited for his efforts.
In her defence however, Sanaipei says, “I wrote the song and he made the first track I wasn’t pleased with it the track. I re-recorded the song, I’m not saying he is not the original producer, but he recorded the track on dead air at Clemo’s. He has no rights to this song.”
On the issue of payment she says: “I did not pay for it because I did not use his track.”
A Calif Records rep also denies Ruff Enuff’s claims saying, “The track laying was done from scratch. If you listen to the beat it is a continuation to her hit song with Jua Cali, Kwaheri. Calif has a stock of tracks that we haven’t used yet. These claims are ridiculous. Also why is he making an issue now when the song is a hit?”
