Akon was in Washington DC this week for the U.S.-Africa Leaders Summit, where he caught up with POLITICO’s Mike Allen to talk about how he is “Lighting Africa” and why celebrity activism is on the decline.
“I think the United States probably may take the value of Africa just a little bit for granted. I think with the right partners, the right neighboring allies and the right support, Africa could be dominating,” he said.
“Because it has all the natural resources you can imagine, and if all the other countries actually got together and created unity, the dollar would be humongous.”
Akon will be in Kenya this September to launch his project.
