Comedian Pokes Fun At Davido And WizKid on MTVBase
On this week’s edition of Nigeria’s number one weekly show, MTV Base Official Naija Top Ten, popular comedian and actor, Bovi is the studio guest and – true to form - he gives everyone a good laugh during the chart countdown.
The comedian, who co-hosts this week’s show with MTV Base VJ Ehiz, joins in the frenzy of this week’s number one video, “Surulere” by Dr Sid featuring Mavin boss, Don Jazzy.
With many celebrities posting “before” and “after” photos of themselves, using the “Surulere” hashtag on social media, Bovi states that some Nigerian celebrities have avoided putting up any photos as they never experienced suffering while growing up.
He said, "Some of our celebrities like Davido have never seen or experienced suffering. He can’t even put up one “Surulere” picture because his past is brighter than some people’s future.”
Bovi, who reveals this week chart with Ehiz, also throws a light but hilarious jab at Star Boy, Wizkid.
He says, “Wizkid is the only Nigerian boy who adds to his age while others keep reducing theirs. I believe he has never shaved before because he is just sixteen and if he is really older than that, I dare him to put up his birth certificate on Instagram to prove his real age!”
The MTV Base Official Naija Top 10: March 28 – 3 April 2014:
1. DR SID FEAT. DON JAZZY – SURULERE
2. PATORANKING - GIRLIE O
3. 2FACE FEAT. T-PAIN - RAINBOW REMIX

How do i tell my friends that Islam preaches peace while a sheikh, an Imam adressing thousands of people in a holy Masjid tells a calm and collected crowd that "dawa ya kafiri - (none muslims) ni bunduki" I don't know how we are going to make this wrong right."

President Uhuru Buys Groundnuts While Stuck In Traffic!
I just came across this YouTube video that was shot by a phone, the resolution is low. It shows what looks like President Uhuru buying groundnuts from hawkers on the roadside.
This was probably shot before he was elected president.
Because the kids who are selling the groundnuts to him refer to him as "Mheshimiwa" after he "tips" them.
You may watch the entire video below...

Ask Africa's Super Sun Anything. And He Will Answer...
For someone who never thought he would get to where he is now, Bez is the proverbial miracle child of music.
The Afrosoul star and guitarist says people told him that Nigerians did not like guitar music, only hip-hop or Afro-pop but he thinks his success has proved them wrong.
Successful singles and hit album later, Bez is on top of his music game.
Bez is famed for his single "Stupid Song" which premiered on the renowned BET 106 & Park. His album Super Sun has sold numerous copies.
In a past interview Bez spoke about his enagagement to the beautiful Bolatito Ladoja, the daughter of Ex-governor of Oyo state, Rasheed Ladoja. Bolatito is a corporate banker with FCMB.
"Yes, I did get engaged and I saw the effects of social media first hand. I mean, you tell a friend and before you know it, the press has everything. It’s not like someone leaked the story somewhere, it was just someone who put it up using their blackberry and it went viral," Bez said.
"For the first time in my life and my career, I felt like my privacy was invaded because it wasn’t something that I wanted to share with the whole world yet. It’s not a bad thing, but I just wanted to enjoy that moment," he added,
"Anyway, I don’t think it has affected my music so far, you just have this realization that you have to be responsible for another person in your life. Eventually there will be kids so you have to be more responsible in your music and lyrics. I mean, you don’t want them to listen to hear something inappropriate. So far though, it has given me a lot of publicity and I think we can ride on that to share more music with music lovers from around the world."
Now, you will get the chance to interview and ask Bez anything during the Coke Studio Africa Artist Takeover.
Clear your calender on Friday the 21st of March from 3PM to 4PM and interact with Bez live Coke Studio Africa Facebook Page (www.facebook.com/cokestudioafrica) and Twitter Handle (www.twitter.com/CokeStudioAfr) and on the hash tag #AskBez.

Ngugi Wa Thiongo's Son Lauds Relaunch Of Pan African Website
Mukoma wa Ngugi, a Kenyan novelist, poet, and literary scholar and son of famed award winning author Ngugi Wa Thiongo has added his voice to This Is Africa, a Pan African website that is considered an opinion leader.
“This is Africa’s new site reflects the constant reinvention that is needed to capture the ever growing complexity of Africa today. Given some of the borderline madness some African leaders are exhibiting, like Museveni and Goodluck passing retrogressive anti-gay laws, the WTF section is especially appropriate,” Mukoma said in a release.
This Is Africa has launched its new website to fulfil its potential as an African media company that chronicles, analyses and discusses the changing relationship of Africans and Africa with the world, campaigns for the full ownership of Africa by Africans, and identifies and supports the phenomenon of Africans determining the future of the continent.
Since its initial launch in 2010, This Is Africa has grown significantly in content volume, authority, and the quality and number of writers.
To retain its position and distinctiveness as the blog that most closely reflects African points of view, This Is Africa has updated the technical features and responsiveness of the site, and, most importantly, is offering more up-to-date content.
The re-launch gives prominence to highly regarded new writers and signals a greater focus on African identity and African perspectives on global issues. The new corporate design and logo that places Africa at the centre of the world reflects this focus.
Critical voices in “Opinion” offers space for critical, analytical commentary on world issues of importance to Africans and the continent, and has been one of This Is Africa’s strongest pillars from the beginning.
Of particular note within the improved category is African Identity, a subject that is now the core focus of This Is Africa. Identity and self-image affect the way Africans (at home and abroad) engage with the rest of the world and determine their own future.
Esteemed new writers in “Opinion” who will join Mukoma wa Ngugi are Okey Ndibe (Nigeria/USA), Brian Bwesigye (Uganda), Mike van Graan (South Africa), Sandile Memela (South Africa), Cosmic Yoruba (Nigeria), Nana Darkoa (Ghana), Levi Kabwato (Malawi) and Takura Zhanghaza (Zimbabwe).
This Is Africa introduces a new magazine under “Lifestyle”, showcasing the continent’s contributions to global culture in the areas of Music, Fashion, Sports, and Travel.
Bite-sized news: “Trending” offers short daily updates on what’s buzzing on the continent, while “WTF?!” offers videos and photographs of astounding incidents. Also on offer are interviews with thought leaders.
Upcoming (within 6 months) will be a daily video update, to stream live from South Africa with current news, current affairs and entertainment from across the continent.
This Is Africa supports initiatives to remove the last traces of colonial legacy. To support this process it introduces “Reclaiming Africa”, a feature that invites Africans to reclaim and rename geographical places and colonial symbols.
Among the new contributors offering fortnightly opinion pieces on This Is Africa are the following lead writers also gave their thoughts on the new look website.
Okey Ndibe (Nigeria/USA), an acclaimed Nigerian writer, essayist and political columnist. “In my first novel, Arrows of Rain, a rather wise elderly woman tells her grandson, a journalist, “A story that must be told never forgives silence.”
Africa teems with multitudes of stories, waiting, demanding to be told. This website takes on the extraordinary task of telling Africa’s compelling, multi-layered stories, and telling them with passion, insight and eloquence. Africa is in the throes of dramatic change and profound transitions, in some ways far more so than any other continent in the world. This is Africa is a veritable forum, which tries to limn the nature, scope and implications of Africa’s convulsions. It is a triumph of reportage and analysis, an indispensable cyber address that ought to be visited by those who wish to put their fingers on the very pulse of a vibrant, dynamic, energetic and frequently confounding continent.”
Sandile Memela (South Africa), a multi-award winning journalist, writer and cultural critic added, “The site is destined to be one of the most authentic, insightful and uncompromising, healing and prophetic voices on developments and trends in Africa and the Diaspora today. It is a compelling blend of philosophy, politics, religion, art and perspective that articulates an uncompromising moral vision through sharp intellects with a clear vision for Africa and humanity. Anyone who ignores what is written here will do so at their own peril.”
Takura Zhangazha (Zimbabwe), a renowned blogger, social, economic and human rights activist said, “The new look TIA website is definitely more engaging and the issues it covers are much more interactive with minds that are interested in Africa's progress.”

Omotola, 2face, Basketmouth to speak at Nigerian Entertainment Conference
The umbrella summit for Nigeria's entertainment industry, Nigerian Entertainment Conference has entered year two with the announcement, today, that this year's event will hold on Wednesday, April 23, 2014.
Conference Chairman Ayeni Adekunle said in a statement that the event will once again take place in the Grand Ball Room of Eko Hotel and Suites in Lagos, Nigeria.
We're back at Eko for the whole day on Wednesday April 23, with even bigger speakers, remarkable panellists and participants from across the country.
Confirmed speakers and panellists include the accomplished Nigerian actress Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde, known for her creative dexterity, activism and inspirational life as one of Africa's most renowned actors.
Also speaking will be Pop icon 2Face Idibia, a pathfinder and leader in contemporary Nigerian music; Co-Founder of Jobberman Ope Awoyemi, Revered Showbiz consultant Edi Lawani, and Founder/CEO of Africa Movie Academy Awards (AMAA) Peace Anyam-Osigwe.
Others include internationally known Nigerian comedian Basketmouth, Digital Marketing expert and GM of Bytesize Bukola Akingbade, Chairman of NET editorial board and COO Q Networks Chris Ihidero, award-winning journalist Olumide Iyanda, broadcaster and entertainment executive Olisa Adibua and respected actress-producer Uche Jombo.
Other speakers and panelists will be announced later.
The theme for this year is "Creating Pathways to the Future", with sessions on Nollywood, Social Responsibility, information technology, Music, Media and Business.
"Just like last year, our speakers and panellists this year are the best in their fields, with an incredible passion for the development of the industry" says Ayeni.
NEC 2014 will feature a keynote address on this year's theme, main papers on each of the sessions, panel discussions, and a daylong exhibition. Topics for this year include: 'Slaying The Collective Rights Monster' (MUSIC); 'Whose Content is it Anyway? (Media); 'Using IT for Intervention' (IT); 'The Desired Future' (Nollywood); 'Why We should Care' (Social Responsibility) and 'Solving The Distribution Problem Once and for all' (Business).
Comedian and master of ceremonies Tee A will return as conference moderator. Nigerian Entertainment Conference was founded by PR Consultant and Publisher Ayeni Adekunle.
The conference is produced by NET Newspapers LTD, with support from HIP TV, Beat FM, Classic FM, Naija FM, Top Radio, City FM, MTV Base, BHM, AV Edge, EDS, Emblue, F316, ID Africa, First Class Incorporated and The Sodium Group.
Conference registration will open Wednesday March 19 on www.nec.ng and close on April 19.
"Attendance to all sessions and exhibitions is free. But registration is compulsory. Everyone must register to attend," Ayeni says.
NEC debuted last year to wide acclaim from practitioners in an industry desperately in need of direction and structure. Inaugural participants included D'Banj, Tunde Kelani, Ifeoma Williams, Don Jazzy, Olamide, Ayo Animashaun, Tunde Laoye, Toolz, Zeb Ejiro, Kunle Bakare, Tony Agenmonmen, Tony Okoroji, and many more.
The Conference was declared open by the DG of the Nigerian Economic Summit Group Frank Nweke. Speakers and panellists included Amaka Igwe, Keke Ogungbe, M.I, Jimmy JATT, Nse Ikpe-Etim, Kunle Afolayan, Gab Okoye, Audu Maikori, Darey, Fidelis Duker, Charles Igwe, Kola Oyeyemi, Chris Ubosi, Ebuka Obi-Uchendu, Sasha, Steve Ayorinde, Tolu Ogunlesi, and several others.
"It's a very important period for our industry. A make-or-mar period. And I consider NEC a timely intervention so we can ensure what we have does not completely collapse. We have a lot of work to do. And it starts by coming together to discuss what's affecting us, while looking to the right places for solutions. Record labels are bleeding, the music makers are endangered; Nollywood is torn apart by wrangling while the structures continue to dilapidate. Plagiarism has taken over digital media while print continues suffering for lack of proper distribution and remuneration. It's the same thing all over, and it shouldn't be so. Nigeria holds so much promise and it's a shame that after so many years we're still battling to get it right. I'm confident we'll go beyond talking and take actions that'll ensure we build an industry we all will be proud of.'

According to the 2009 Kenya National Census, only 37% of families in Turkana have access to improved water and only 1% of the population has sanitation facilities coverage. As such, cholera is a constant threat to child survival contributing to an under-five mortality rate of 117 per every 1,000 live births in Turkana, and impeding Kenya’s efforts to end preventable child deaths.
“We are looking to enable easier access to health and hygiene facilities by installing hand washing and sanitation facilities that will benefit 35,000 school children in 15 – 20 schools”.
Noted Save The Children Kenya Country Manager, Mr. Duncan Harvey. Through the years, Dettol has implemented school programs focused on teaching children when and how to wash their hands with soap and water.
Through this, the company has reached up to 1,500,000 children. Dettol brand has been a key champion of hand washing with soap in partnership with the government and not-for-profit organizations, in its quest to support the country in achieving its goal to be a healthier country, in line with Vision 2030.
Kenyan Determined To Climb Mount Everest
Steve Obbayi will set out from Nairobi to become the first Kenyan to climb Mount Everest, the world's tallest peak.
The 39-year-old received a shot in the arm from BrighterMonday who have sponsored him to the tune of Kshs. 1.75 million.
Obbayi and his colleague, Toby Storie-Pugh, Everest Expedition founder, will battle the peak to inspire Kenyans to chase their dreams and to raise awareness for the world's most neglected development issue, sanitation.
Obbayi, and Storie-Pugh have already summited Mount Kenya, the tallest peak in Kenya at 5,199 meters, during the team selection process.
They also conquered Mount Kilimanjaro, the tallest mountain in Africa at 5,895 meters via the Rongai route.
“The ultimate goal in this expedition is to show that a regular guy from Africa is capable of achieving in non-traditional areas,” said Obbayi during the cheque presentation.
“Go out there, take the first step, keep a focused eye out and the pieces will fall into place. Your dream will turn into reality,” he added.
“We at BrighterMonday are stimulated by the resolves of these two Kenyans who area about to inspire a global community, to approach life head on, with determination, courage and with resolve like that needed while seeking a job anywhere in this world,” said BrighterMonday Sales Director Robert Kimani.
The team will arrive at the Everest Base Camp by early April and plans to summit the mountain by late May.
They will climb the South Col route. The Everest Expedition is sponsored by several Kenyan and International companies, using Obbayi’s story to inspire others.

Get To Hangout With Naija's DJ Jimmy Jatt Online. Ask Him Anything
Next week, DJ Jimmy Jatt from Nigeria will be the star on the Coke Studio Africa Artist Takeover.
The Channel O Africa Music Video Award will be live on the Coke Studio Africa Facebook Page (www.facebook.com/cokestudioafrica) and Twitter Handle (www.twitter.com/CokeStudioAfr) on Thursday the 13th of March from 5 PM to 6 PM where he will interact 1 on 1 with the Coke Studio Africa fans.
Fans get the opportunity to ask Jimmy their questions on these two platforms using the hash tag #AskJimmyJatt.
Jimmy collaborated with Harry Kimani in reworking the African hit Malaika on Coke Studio Africa a music television series that features live studio-recorded music performances by well-established African artists. It brings together artists from different genres, eras and regions to create a modern and authentic sound through musical fusion.
The purpose of Coke Studio is to reinvent the way music can capture the spirit of a nation, opening hearts and minds, and of course, Happiness. Coke Studio Africa airs in Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania & Nigeria.
Born and bred in Lagos Island, Jimmy Adewale Amu, popularly known as Cool Dj Jimmy Jatt is a renowned Disc Jockey who is known for setting the pace for Hip hop music in the country and beyond.
An icon in the Nigerian entertainment industry that has come a long way and a veteran who has survived the test of time.
He grew up listening to a lot of blues, soul, jazz and indigenous genres like juju, apala, fuji, highlife, funk, R&B, pop, disco and hip-hop as per the likes of people in his family.
He happened to collect a lot of early rap albums from the 70's and 80's and developed an interest in hip-hop and rapping.
Formerly, known as Master J, Dj Jimmy Jatt came into the music industry as a rapper with lots of demos but after a fruitless search getting a record label to support him, he started deejaying with the support of his brothers.
He was lured into being behind the decks by his brothers, because they were DJs and he found himself more comfortable behind the turntable.
They helped him establish a studio (JATT studio) and he eventually changed his stage name to DJ Jimmy Jatt in honor of his brothers, who were called Jimmy, Amu, Tunde, and Tayo.
He started as a mobile DJ, then went to clubbing but he preferred being a mobile dj which he still is.
Besides being a dj, Jimmy Jatt has a T.V programme called ‘Jimmy’s Jump Off’ currently airing on local and international stations.
Responsible for grooming and mentoring a whole lot of DJs, he organized talent shows in his studios and ended up discovering many talented rappers in the process. He networked with Radio Stations and helped his discoveries get their unreleased songs on air.
Jimmy's Road Block Street Carnival brought famous artists to the public. Jatt has also performed at many concerts in Nigeria and internationally.
He has made Disc Jockeying a noble profession in Nigeria. 'Battle Field’ is a project aimed at discovering new DJ's.
