Two students will be unveiled on 3 October as the 2012 Young Environmental Envoys for Kenya, as part of an initiative run by Bayer and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).
The young environmentalists will join fellow envoys from 18 other countries for an educational field trip in Germany next month. The visit will focus on how the latest technology can be applied to environmental protection.
The students fought off competition from young ‘green’ leaders from across Kenya to earn the accolade.
As part of their prize, they will receive advice and support for expanding their own community-based sustainable development projects.
Launched in 1998, the UNEP-Bayer Young Environment Envoy Programme aims to improve knowledge of environmental issues among young people and create a network of young environmental leaders worldwide.
All shortlisted candidates, as well as their classmates and supporters, will attend the announcement at UNEP.
There will be interview opportunities with UNEP, Bayer, and the winning candidates at the event.
