Miss World Kenya 2005 and anti-jigger campaigner Cecilia Mwangi leaves for the US today for a one-month tour at the invitation of East Africans in America. She is expected to address different forums on jigger infestation in East Africa. Ahadi Kenya has been fighting jiggers in Kenya for the last three years and it has spread its wings to Uganda and Tanzania. It will also be moving to Rwanda and Burundi in July after she jets back.
The beauty queen’s tour schedule will be jam-packed as she is set to speak at ten venues in six cities.
She will be hosted at Dallas, Texas, Ohio, Atlanta, Georgia, Washington DC and New York City. Over the course of her visit, hosts in each city will co-ordinate activities that include speaking engagements in high school graduation ceremonies, women’s luncheons, church ceremonies, educational seminars and health and International Relations organisations. She will also visit children’s hospitals and women’s shelters.
