EAST AFRICAN STARS MISS OUT ON WORLD CUP CONCERT

The list of the first performing artists for the inaugural FIFA World Cup Kick-Off Celebration Concert doesn’t contain any East African acts.

Billed as the greatest entertainment show to date in Africa, icons like Benin’s Angelique Kidjo, South African Vusi Mahlasela, Malian duo Amadou & Mariam make the list and they will be joined by American stars Alicia Keys, Black Eyed Peas, BLK JKS (pronounced Black Jacks), John Legend, Juanes, Shakira, The Parlotones, Tinariwen and Vieux Farka Touré.

They will entertain at the historic event-taking place the night before the first match at 8pm local time on June 10, 2010, at the newly-renovated Orlando Stadium in Soweto/Johannesburg.
In addition, football legends past and current as well as celebrities from other fields will also be present.
Control Room, the world’s leading producer of global music events, and FIFA (Fédération Internationale de Football Association), announced the first group of musicians on Wednesday.
