SAUTI SOL IMPRESSES HABIB KOITE AT MALI FESTIVAL

Sauti Sol who got back into the country after performing at the Festival sur le Niger in Segou, Mali where they left a lasting impression on Habib Koite.
Speaking to Hot Secrets, Delvin Mudigi one of the afro fusion band members said Malian star Habib Koite was “interested in Kenyan music and had heard our songs. He was surprised that we knew his songs. He did not expect it.”
At the grand finale show Habib Koite called them, thrice, to join him on stage to sing a song with him. Sharing a platform with one of their African music icons was an emotional moment.
The band was wowed by how they were celebrated in a foreign land, and Mali’s utmost love for their music and culture.
The festival was a breath of “fresh air. We discovered that the reason why the west buys into the festival is because the Malian and the artiste are true to their culture. They value their heritage,” Delvin said, “During our stay there we only heard one foreign song, Rihanna’s being played at the hotel. The rest was their music.”
Sauti Sol is in close contact with Lokua Kanza among other big Malian singers and are planning on working in conjunction on music collaborations/ projects.

This March, the boys will represent Kenya for the second time at one of the world’s biggest music convention featuring bands from around the world, the South by South West (SXSW) music festival, held in Austin Texas, USA. Joined by Kenyan first-timers at the festival, Just-A-Band (JAB), that annually hosts hundreds of awesome bands from around the globe.
