BIG BROTHER’S KEVIN TALKS ABOUT HIS ENGAGEMENT

This week on Studio 53, the gorgeous Eku and Dolapo speak to Ghanaian producer Shirley Frimpong Manso, Nigerian artist Banky W, Tanzanian designer Mustafa Hassanali plus Big Brother Revolution winner Kevin Chuwang Pam and former housemate Elizabeth Gupta tell viewers about their recent engagement.
The Big Brother Revolution housemates talking about their recent engagement. According to reports on August 23, while at the Ogus Baba Laugh Goes On comedy club in Port Harcourt, Kevin and Elizabeth got up on stage and performed a track together.
Nigeria’s biggest comedian, Ali Baba introduced the couple to the 2000 strong crowd. Once they’d finished performing Una Pata Mambo, Kevin went down on one knee and proposed to Elizabeth.

BIG BROTHER AFRICA: THE EYE REVEALED!

The voyeuristic eye of the 5th season of Big Brother Africa has been unveiled. The reality show set to hit our screens on July 18 has a new logo.
Modern and streamlined, the new logo is a departure from last year’s gritty Revolution themed imagery. Instead the focus is on light, reflection and shimmer, with a boldly defined ‘eye’ highlighted with moments of iridescent color. Setting off the sophisticated design and central to the layout is the outline of a star, evocative of fame, showbiz and the classic Hollywood sense of lights, camera and action!
With the new season of Big Brother Africa once again being produced for M-Net by Endemol, Executive Producer Marie Rosholt spoke about the new logo.
“With each season of this show, the eye has come to symbolize the essence of the production, the spirit of the series to follow. This year, the designers were specifically tasked to create an eye that truly represented the new series, one that was fresh and glitzy, simple but still dynamic. In terms of using the star icon, which is commonly used to demonstrate fame and glamour, we felt it represented well how we feel about our audiences, our housemates, our new house and all those people that make Big Brother Africa a true African success. They are all stars in their own right.”
NOTE: the emphasis on star! Wink, wink, nudge, nudge.

JUICY DITS ON BIG BROTHER 5

I could get shot for talking about this, but hey, I can’t help it. Now, word of the wide-open streets of Nairobi alleges that you could just be seeing some of the contestants from the previous BBA shows.
Our source that is thisclose likeveryclose to the BBA guys says, “The fifth installment of the voyeuristic reality TV show is rumoured to star "some of the familiar faces" already featured on previous seasons of the show, although the rules will remain basically the same.”
unlike BBA 4 that was dubbed the Revolution a showerless one, I might add, this one will feature a shower hour. Yeeeeaaay, to all the pervs out there.
Anyho, Stella Ondimu, MultiChoice PR exec said, "That is not exactly it. It has happened before in the US and UK but for us we will be interviewing people we have interviewed before for the show but did not make it," adding, "I do not know who will be in the house either but season five will maintain some of the key characteristics that make it popular."
Kenya has been represented in the reality show by Sheila Kwamboka, Jeremy Ndirangu and Teddy Muthusi.
In a press release last week, M-Net confirmed that they will not be calling for entries for the upcoming reality show that premiers on July 18. “We want to invest more broadly in season five and having already been introduced to a world of interesting characters from previous searches, there’s limited value in spending extensively in another search for contestants,” said Biola Alabi, M-Net Africa Managing Director. This year, the house will feature 53 cameras and 100 microphones.

BIG BROTHER AFRICA 5: PLEASE DON'T APPLY

Big Brother is back for it's fifth installment people starting July 18. However, if you have never, ever, ever applied to be in the past four seasons, then my apologies, you will not be in this season either.
MNet revealed that having run the series 4 times previously, they’re now head-hunting contestants from a database of previous entries submitted for the show.
“We want to invest more broadly in season 5 and having already been introduced to a world of interesting characters from previous searches, there’s limited value in spending extensively in another search for contestants,” says -Net Africa Managing Director Biola Alabi.
She goes on to say, “We’ll still be looking for entertaining persons with a sense of humor, a love of adventure and the ability to enjoy the very exciting Big Brother experience. In the past we’ve spent widely to find contestants in 14 countries. This year, we’re using these funds to develop a gutsy new series, recreating the house in a very different way and focusing on putting new technology into place.”
M-Net will kick-off a sensational new season of Africa’s biggest reality show right after the World Cup ends.
Similar to the past season, the golden prize of USD 200 000 is up for grabs and this time, Big Brother fans in over 40 countries across the continent are going to get a show that’s more edgy, more tactically challenging and more intensely strategic than ever before.

COLLO IS NOW A NIGERIAN OGA!

Self-proclaimed King wa Rap Collo recently revealed that he now goes by the name Oga Collo Menta after visiting with Nigerian BBA winner Kevin Chuwang Pam.
“I was shocked by the love we received from our fans there. It was a humbling experience, having the Governor of the area knight me. I also got to do a collabo 2shotz and hopefully I will also get a chance to work with Tuface Idibia,” he said.
Kenya’s BBA contestant Jeremy Ndirangu and his fellow housemates were also part of the Nigerian visit.

BBA’S KRISTAL LOSES JOB OVER CIGS

Former Zimbabwe’s Big Brother Africa representative Kristal Culverwel was reported to have once been fired from a job because she refused to quit smoking.
Her mother Bev revealed, “She had a job in England as a wine taster,” adding, “She would taste wines from place to place and also do some public relations campaigns for her employer in the wine industry. But her employer, who came to know about her smoking habits, told her to quit smoking, but she strongly refused. She is not the kind of person that sways easily from what she truly is.” With her days as a wine taster long behind her, Kristal is fully committed to her career in medicine.

KAONE BRANDED A ROLE MODEL IN BOTSWANA

Botswana fans who have meet the Big Brother housemate Kaone Ramontshonyana are impressed by his down to earth nature and most agree that he is the humble guy from next door.
Kaone who has become quite the celebrity. At a past party, Kaone warmed up to the revellers, he even went behind the counter and served them with a few drinks and signed autographs.
When he was addressing his followers from the DJ's box, he described himself as a guy from the hood. To most he is considered a role model more so because he kept his cool when he was in the reality show, which was why many of his countrymen were utterly disappointed when he was evicted from the house.

KEVIN PREDICTABLY WINS BIGBROTHERREVOLUTION

Nigeria’s Kevin was named as the winner of M-Net’s BIG BROTHER REVOLUTION during Sunday’s stunning Finale (December 6)after a final week of voting by Africa’s audiences. The 27-year-old entertainer was chosen by the continent after outlasting 24 other housemates over 91 days in the BIG BROTHER house, to claim the massive USD 200 000 prize.

After evicting Nigerian Nkenna, Malawian Mzamo and Namibian Edward, Angola’s Emma and Nigeria’s Kevin were the final two housemates left in the REVOLUTION. After a tense wait, IK announced the name heard round the continent – Kevin! After Emma left the house and Kevin had a few moments to let the news sink in, he emerged victorious and joined IK on stage to share his joy with Africa.

“I feel like Obama!” was Kevin’s reaction to IK’s question about how it felt to win BIG BROTHER REVOLUTION. Shedding tears and waving his Nigerian flag, he said that he thought Africa had chosen him as the winner because he was born for TV. “I was made for this,” he said.

Kevin sank to his knees as M-Net Africa Managing Director Biola Alabi brought out his USD 200 000 cheque and wrote his name on it in front of him, making concrete the fact that he had won the game. Joined on stage by his family, the visibly-moved Nigerian danced and celebrated his success.

Kevin was the most popular housemate in the most countries, claiming 11 country votes (Botswana, Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Mozambique, Nigeria, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, Zimbabwe and the Rest of Africa) versus 2 for Emma (Angola & South Africa), 1 apiece for Edward (Namibia) and Mzamo (Malawi) while Nkenna couldn’t claim a victory in any of the participating countries.

The show kicked off with IK abseiling into the garden before Jozi hip hop group Fresh performed in front of a packed studio audience. The 20 evicted housemates then joined him on stage in a stunning parade of colour as they waved their national flags. After a review of the first 30 days in the house, the evicted housemates performed a special dance number paying homage Michael Jackson – as they did so successfully during their “Thriller” task.

Bow Wow then performed his first track of the evening, nearly tearing the roof off the studio! Then it was time to reduce the Big 5 to the Big 4. IK took viewers into the house before naming Nkenna as the first housemate to be evicted during the Finale. The Nigerian said her goodbyes quickly before joining IK on stage and talked about her time in the house. Unable to pick a favourite moment from her time in the house, she revealed that she cried when Elizabeth was evicted because she hadn’t believed that Africa would vote to keep her in the house. Nkenna left the house with USD2997 in her money pot, claiming 5th spot in the REVOLUTION.

In a knockout blow, IK then took viewers straight back into the house to immediately evict another housemate. After a tense pause, he announced the next name – Mzamo. The Malawian waved off the attention of her fellow finalists, telling them she would see them “just now” outside the house. Joining IK on stage, she told Africa that she hoped the continent had kept them in the game for so long because she is a genuine person.

When quizzed about her fight with Itai which saw her smash a pane of glass, she said she had grown frustrated when he wouldn’t listen to her and lashed out because she had gone past the point of crying. With that, she left and met her family on the edge of the stage, taking home USD1383 in her money pot. Bow Wow then took to the stage again, before IK headed into the house to surprise remaining housemates Edward, Emma and Kevin.

Emma declared that she felt anxious, nervous and excited. Kevin explained how he had focused on the game, saying that when he finally saw the female housemates, he immediately saw competition, rather than ‘women’. IK teased Emma about the fact that since Jeremy had been evicted, she seemed to have turned her attention to Kevin. “Kevin is my brother,” she told him. “I would love an elder brother, someone I can talk to about anything – Jeremy and Kevin are totally different and have totally different places in my heart.”

IK asked Edward who he thought shouldn’t have been in the final 5 with him. “Geraldine should have been in and not Emma,” he said, before agreeing with IK that he had no beef with the Angolan. Emma said that she would have preferred to have shared the final week with Paloma, Geraldine and Jeremy. Kevin still felt that he stood a chance with Elizabeth, but told Africa that he would be respectful of the fact that she is in a relationship outside of the house.

Edward told IK that he assumed the role of the resident prankster after sizing up the ‘prank potential’ of the other housemates and deciding he could have more fun.
After departing the house, IK had more business to conclude – the eviction of the 23rd housemate. After accepting the verified envelope from the Alexander Forbes representative, he announced that Edward would be the next housemate to leave the REVOLUTION.

Joining IK on stage, Edward talked about how much fun it was to be part of the unique Twin Twist. He declared that he had no regrets about any of his ‘save & replace’ decisions as Head of House. “No regrets whatsoever,” he said. “The show wasn’t about the money for me – it was about having fun.” Edward departed the stage – and the game – with USD2757 in his money pot.

The big moment had then arrived. Accepting the envelope from the auditor for the final time, IK turned to camera and announced to the waiting pair – and the continent – that Kevin was the winner of BIG BROTHER REVOLUTION.

“I told you, I told you!” said Emma, hugging the overwhelmed Nigerian. After sharing his joy, she left the house and joined IK on stage. Once outside, she told IK that she had told Kevin during the afternoon that he was going to take the money home. She left the stage with USD2998 in her money pot and joined her family.

After Kevin joined IK on stage and received his cheque, they pulled the plug on the REVOLUTION together – leaving the house in darkness as Kevin celebrated his success with the continent. CANDID CHAT WITH LIZ AND KAONE

Comrade in arms Liz and Kaone were the sixth evictees from the Big Brother Revolution house. In a telephone interview from Johannesburg, the two talked about various issues.
South African Fabuliz said that in as much as fellow countryman voted to have her up for eviction, “He did nothing wrong, Quin did not betray me!” adding that “The money will definitely come home,” refereeing to Quin who is the remaining South African contestant.
Liz also commented on being branded a ‘Spoilt brat’ by Ethiopian Yacob. “He can call me whatever he wants but I know who I am,” adding that their relationship in the house was “civil” at most, “I didn’t hate anyone – I didn’t like Yacob, but I didn’t hate anyone,” she said.
Liz said her love for the Ugandan boys, Phil and Hannington, had “nothing to do with the country” rather that they had the same likes and dislikes.
Botswana’s Kaone is enjoying the “freedom” of being outside the Big Brother house, “though I miss Eddy and the pranks we pulled in the house,” said Kaone. He plans to go back home to establish himself as a brand. Kaone was taken aback when we asked him about his argument with Kenyan evicted housemate Teddy Muthusi. After a long silence he said, “The little argument I had with him basically was about both of us trying to express ourselves. It was nothing personal.” Did it cost Teddy his chance in the house? “Yeah, halfway through, I think so, but I wouldn’t put his eviction entirely on that because Africa might have had other reasons too.”

TEDDY: I HAD TO PACK LAST MINUTE

Teddy Muthusi the evicted Kenyan contestant was the first to leave the Big Brother house after only five days. In a telephone interview Teddy said, “I thought I would last longer, I did not even cross my mind. I did not pack my bags till the very last minute,” he said.
The now jobless advertising genius said even as the ladies were being ushered to the house, “I was numb, I was still asking myself ‘what do you mean I’m out?’,” adding, “here goes an edge I would have used to my advantage.”
Teddy reckons that he became an eviction candidate because of his long diary session.
“Now that you ask that, it might have been the things I said. Done differently I would have told Big Brother the things that made me laugh and not about the housemates. I forgot I was also talking to their countries.”

IDOL ADIONA DATING BIG BROTHER’S MUNYA

Zimbabwe’s Idol contestant Adiona Maboreke says she is dating Big Brother Africa 3 Zimbabwe housemate Munya.
Commenting on the tryst Munya had a tryst in the BBA house with Tawana from Botswana, she says, “It gets weird sometimes though when the media talks about Tawana and ask me how I feel about that. I never answer. The media does not affect our relationship because we are two of the most open-minded people you could ever meet. I think.”
However, she has recorded some songs with Munya and Zambia’s BBA contestant Takondwa titled Even If.
“Munya also raps on the track, in fact he came up with the idea of the song,” Adiona said.

KRISTAL - ZIMBABWE
She is an Ambulance Technician and hates liars and backstabbers and lists her clothing style as “fabulosity”.

EDNA – ANGOLA
Edna studied International Relations at university and her role model is Angelina Jolie because of her strong personality, character and not because she is shacking up with Brad Pitt.
She entered BIG BROTHER REVOLUTION for the challenge and feels that being
selected to participate has changed the direction of her life.

EMMA – ANGOLA
First year Marketing and Management student Emma is a huge basketball fan and is proud of her national team because they have won the African Championships 9 times in 9 years. She says that viewers should watch her because she will give them what they want to see seeing as there is no shower hour – “fun, drama, entertainment – while I am in the house there will be no boredom and no reason for viewers to change the channel!”

MZAMO - MALAWI
Mzamo is a student who has lived in Malawi, England, France, Mozambique and South Africa. She hates stereotypes and would love to visit the Greek islands.

JENNIFER - MOZAMBIQUE
Jennifer has a BA in International Politics and her worst habit is sticking her used chewing gum under her bed and is irritated by ignorance, prejudice, jealousy and laziness.

RENE - NAMIBIA
Single Hairstylist Rene is a self-confessed party girl whose worst habits are smoking, being too loud and sometimes drinking a little too much.
She hates laziness and dishonesty and likes to relax by sleeping.

GERALDINE - NIGERIA
Law student Geraldine says the best advice she ever received was from her mom – “Don’t be bitter or the world will spit you out, don’t be too sweet or the world will suck you up”. She reads, plays her guitar or swims to relax and her worst habit is sipping tea with her teaspoon.

NKENNA – NIGERIA
Nkenna has a BSc in Food Science and Technology and hails from Owerri in Imo State. She would love to visit Jerusalem because “I would love to see the reality of the things I read from the Bible”.She’ll be taking her Bible into the house.

LIZ – SOUTH AFRICA
Single Business Co-ordinator Liz is currently studying towards her BCom degree in Johannesburg. She says viewers should watch her on the show because her middle name is ‘entertainment’ and hopes one of her reward challenge prizes will be a phone call to her sister or a close friend.

TV Presenter / Actress Elizabeth is a big Manchester United and Chicago Bulls fan and rates sleeping late and waking up too early as her bad habits.

MAGGIE - ZAMBIA
Margaret is a student and model who loves the music of Lionel Ritchie, UB40 and Akon. She looks up to her mom because of her strength and hates people who nag.

PALOMA - ZAMBIA
Paloma is a Sales Assistant and she’d love to visit Las Vegas because “what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas”. She describes her clothing style as ‘sophisticated, elegant but simple.’

Like it or not, I believe the Sh16 million loot from the reality TV show Big Brother is coming to Kenya. Yes, I said it.
Representing Kenya in the house is Teddy Muthusi and Jeremy Ndirangu.
Teddy is an unemployed multi-talented advertising copywriter, voice-over artist and broadcaster. He has a BA in International Relations from the United States International University in Nairobi. The 34 year old, says the best thing about Kenyans is their spirit of resilience and rates the Masaai Mara as the best place in his country to visit. Interviewed he said, “my mom is my role model, because of her passion for life and optimism”. Pessimists and whiners really annoy him, while he says falling in love too quickly is one of his bad habits.
Jeremy is the current Mr University Kenya winner and is pursuing a BSc Degree in Telecommunication and Information Technology in Kenyatta University.
He says he is proud to be Kenyan because of the resilience of the people and their ability to move on from hardships. Jeremy, 22, says he entered Big Brother Revolution because it presented him with a chance to do something new, unconventional and extraordinary.

MUNYA GOES TO UGANDA

Reality TV star Munya from the Big Brother Africa 3 hit show will be in Uganda in October.
Munya will make an appearance for the official opening of Blu Haze bar in Kampala. The Zimbabwean housemate will be the guest star at the relaunch of the bar.

Ricco does Big Brother Brazil!

Big Brother III winner 21-year old Angolan, Ricardo David Ferreira Venancio ‘Ricco’, recently had a special participation in the Brazilian reality show Big Brother Brazil (BBB9). He stayed inside the house for four days from February 28, Sunday. There was a day when there was a party named Angola, where he presented music, clothing and typical foods from Angola to Brazilian people. Clearly his millions are not running out anytime soon!
