Kenya Wins Big At The 2017 World Travel Awards

Kenya triumphed at the 2017 World Travel Awards (WTA) scooping top awards in different categories. 

Kenya’s safari and beach products received a boost with the Maasai Mara Game Reserve being voted Africa’s leading national park and Diani beach as Africa’s leading beach destination
The Kenya Tourism Board (KTB) also emerged as Africa’s top Tourism board for the 6th year running, beating other African tourism agents Africa, including the Egyptian Tourist Authority, Moroccan National Tourism Organization and South African Tourism. 

The award ceremony to recognize the Oscars of travel industry was held on the 10th October at the Radisson Blu Hotel & Convention Centre, Kigali, Rwanda. 

“We are honored to have won this prestigious award for the 7th year running. I congratulate the KTB team for, together, continuing to make our great Country shine,” said KTB CEO, Dr. Betty Radier. 

Various Kenyan travel and tourism service providers emerged victorious, cementing Kenya as having Africa’s leading travel and tourism services. 

Bonfire Adventures led the way as Africa’s leading travel agency award while Destination Kenya bagged Africa’s leading destination management company award.

With regards to resorts, Sarova Hotels, Resorts and Game Lodges was crowned Africa’s leading hotel brand while Fairmont Mount Kenya Safari Club bagged the Africa’s leading hotel award. As well Heritage Hotels was crowned the country’s leading safari camp brand. 

Sirikoi Lodge in Meru won the Africa’s leading luxury lodge award while the five-star Leopard Beach Resort and Spa in Diani won Africa’s leading family resort award. These stood to showcase Kenya rich and dynamic offerings within the counties. 

In ports and airlines; Mombasa port once again scooped the Africa’s leading cruise facility award while National carrier Kenya Airways bagged two awards after it was voted Africa’s leading airline and Africa’s leading airline- Business Class. Kenya’s Budget airline Fly540, was not left behind and was voted Kenya’s leading domestic safari carrier. 

 “I take this opportunity to congratulate all the other winning Kenyan tourism brands, most notably the Masai Mara Game Reserve for winning ‘Africa’s Leading National Park’; Kenya Airways (KQ) for winning ‘Africa’s Leading Airline’ and ‘Africa’s Leading Airline Business Class,” said the Kenya Tourism Board Chair, Jimi Kariuki.
