A form two drop-out emerged as the week eight winner of one million Kenya shillings in the ongoing Coca-Cola Company’s national consumer promotion dubbed Changamkia Mamili.
Japheth Karisa a 23-year-old gardener in Shanzu Kilifi County won the one million after purchasing a Fanta bottle with a yellow crown.
The first born in a family of three had been trying his luck in the promotion with no avail.
“I have always made it a habit of enjoying Fanta each and every afternoon as I breeze from the blistering heat, and I always tried out my luck but with a target of winning bundles or the other cash prizes up for grabs,” he said.
The jubilant winner added, “I am very happy to be the lucky winner. My family is going to benefit a lot from this money and I will keep participating in hope of winning more.”
Karisa, who is the sole breadwinner for his family, has big plans following his win. Having dropped out of secondary school in form-two in the year 2009 due to lack of fees, he does not want a recurrence of the same with his siblings.
His plans are to help pay school fees for his two siblings. The second born is currently in form-two and the younger sister recently completed primary school but lacked school fees to begin her secondary school education, now see the light at the end of the tunnel as they have renewed hopes of finishing their O-level education.
He added, “I now have big plans for my family, educating and relocating them from here (Shanzu) and building a nice house for them. My personal plans being venturing into a business to sustain myself. It is indeed a blessing for me and our family.”
Lucy Odour, Marketing Manager Kenya, Coca-Cola – CEWA said, “Fulfilling our consumer’s needs is the sole reason we are in business, and it’s in our business undertaking to also reward them fully for believing and consuming our products.”
She added, “We have awarded seven previous winners hailing from Eldama Ravine in Nakuru County, Bondo in Siaya county, Eastleigh in Nairobi County, Kitale, Kisii, Nakuru and Kisumu and will continue doing so in all corners of this country and reach out to all our consumers.”
To enter in the promotion, which started over two months ago and set to end on 22nd August 2017, consumers need to buy 200ml, 300ml and 500ml Coca-Cola, Fanta or Sprite identifiable by a yellow crown and text the code under the crown to 40111.
Consumers must be eighteen years and above, be registered users on Safaricom, Airtel, Orange or Yu mobile networks.
In addition to the one million shillings, consumers also stand a chance to win daily cash winnings from a minimum of Kshs50 to Kshs5, 000 or 15 free SMS and 15 MBs Safaricom Data bundles.
