The Grammy’s which are organized by the National Academy of Arts and Sciences (US) will this year awards take place on Sunday 10th February (Monday 11th February from 4am Kenyan time) at the Staples Center.

Records released between October 1, 2011 and September 30, 2012 are eligible for this year’s edition which has Frank Ocean, Indie group Fun, Mumford and Sons, Jay Z & Kanye West tied for the most nominations. But what is most important to note is that Frank Ocean and Fun have dominated the major categories.

The major categories to watch out for are Record of the Year which has The Black Eyes, Kelly Clarkson, Fun, Gotye, Frank Ocean and Taylor Swift in contention.

While, Album of the Year has El Camino, Fun, Mumford & Sons, Frank Ocean and Frank White who is the oldest in the bunch at 37.

Frank Ocean made history by being the first artiste since Amy Winehouse in 2008 to earn nominations in all major categories.

Another artiste to watch during the 2013 Grammy’s is Miguel following his cross over hit ‘Adorn’. Following the previous awards where he received no nominations, Miguel got 5 nominations in Best Album – Contemporary, Best R&B Song, Best R&B performance and Best rap song from his collaborations with Wale on the track ‘Lotus Flower Bomb’.

Hugh Masekela is up for a nomination for his album ‘Jabulani’ along with Amadou & Mariam for the album ‘Folila’ in the category World Music album. These are the only two artistes from the African continent a sign that our musicians have some work cut out in penetrating the American market.

GOtv viewers can expect to catch all the red carpet fashion hits and misses before the start of the awards that will be hosted by LL Cool J who last year opened the awards with a prayer following Whitney Houston’s death.

During the three and a half hour show, expected performances are from Taylor Swift, Rihanna, the Black Keys, Jack White, Mumford & Sons and Carrie Underwood.
