NAIROBI HALF LIFE DIRECTOR AND ACTOR IN GERMANY


This week, two of the members of the popular Kenyan crime thriller, Nairobi Half Life have been promoting the movie in Germany ahead of the set screenings.

 The helmer, Tosh Gitonga and actor Maina Olwenya who plays streetwise gangsta Oti jetted off to Germany where they are set to have a total of 14 screenings in various towns.

The first screening is set for Lubeck at Kino Koki on October 11 followed by screenings in Hamburg, Bonn, Koln and other towns before culminating on October 26 at the Passage in Leipzig.

 The film has a Kenyan crew and cast and is a Ginger Ink films production. Recently the film was submitted for the 85th Oscars in the Best Foreign Language Film category. It will battle for the nomination slot with 71 other movies from around the world.

The Kenya Oscars Selection Committee praised the film as a masterpiece, believing in its chances at a nomination for next year's Awards.

 “We as a committee are privileged to have been involved in the process of reviewing Nairobi Half Life and to have found it as a suitable Kenyan submission. It is clear from this film that The Kenya Film Industry has the capacity to make movies that can compete on a global platform,” read the statement.

The Academy will announce the final list of five nominated films on Thursday January 10, 2013 with the official Academy Awards ceremony set for Sunday February 24, 2013.
