MEET THE NIKO NA SAFARICOM LIVE ARTISTES



Sauti Sol
Sauti Sol is without a doubt a household name in the local and African musical scene and is  also a rising star in the global music industry. The group is made up of; Bien-Aime Baraza, Willis Chimano, Delvin Mudigi and Polycarp Otieno.
Together, they have managed to create ripples with exhilarating performances and artistic versatility. Sauti Sol began singing together as part of a spiritual Acapella group during their days at Upper Hill High School in Nairobi. They then took part in the Spotlight on Kenyan Music series of concerts organized by Alliance Francaise in Nairobi. Their impressive performances saw them land a chance to record their first song, ‘Nakuja' at Ketebul Studio.
They have since popularized Afro-Fusion as a musical genre and have been received warmly in the industry by the young and the old alike. From their first single, Nitakuja, the group has taken strides and now they already have two albums- Mwanzo and Sol Filosofia- under their name. They have also scooped CHAT and MOAMAs awards for Best Music Group; 2010 and a Kisima Award for the Video of the Year-Coming Home- in 2011.
With this group on stage, the Niko Na Safaricom Live concerts can only get better!

Jimmy Gait

With three albums under his belt, Jimmy Gait has managed to engrave his name on the bed rock of the local music industry. Born James Ngaita, he was determined to become a pastor until he got a calling of a different kind; music.

His path to music didn’t come easily though and he had to take up odd jobs including one as a mjengo person (construction worker) to make ends meet. Lady luck however came calling in the form of a missionary in Kijabe who introduced him to the piano and since then, life has never been the same for the amazing entertainer.

His single Wakati hit the music industry with a bang, propelling him to levels beyond his imagination. He has since managed to scoops multiple music awards including  Groove Awards with Skiza and Kisima Awards for his musical prowess. Muhadhara, Huratiti and Holy Day are his albums so far.  And having performed at the MAMA awards and at the Coca Cola World Cup celebration, the sky is the limit for this Kenyan star.

For Jimmy Gait, his main aspiration is to be a beacon of hope. He desires to  cut a figure that people can look up to for inspiration. For that reason, he has initiated “Make It or Make It”, a campaign that seeks to empower young people with the relevant tools for self-belief.

Camp Mulla.
Nominees for the Best International Act- Africa; BET Awards 2012,  Camp Mulla is one of the most sought after entertainment outfits globally. These youngsters have managed to cut a niche in the music industry with their unique style that is a cross-over of hip hop and contemporary R n B.
Camp Mulla was formed in 2009 by 19 year old, Young Kass and Taio Tripper as a result of a series of experimental musical projects. The two were later on joined by Karun aged 18 and 21 year old Marcus Kibukosya a.k.a. K Cous  to establish the exceptional Hip-hop outfit, which continues to cause ripples in the regional music industry.
Camp Mulla won a deserved CHAT Award for the Best Group in 2011.The group’s first single Low brought them a lot of success and they have built on that success with other songs such as Party don’t stop. Everybody is now looking forward to the release of their first album, Funkytown which is set to happen in the course of the Niko na Safaricom Live campaign.

Jaguar
Born Charles Njagua Kanyi, Jaguar is arguably one of the most celebrated local musicians in recent times. His music cuts across all age groups, his style is unique, his rhythm exquisite and his on-stage presence a spectacle to behold.His current hit Kigeugeu is deemed a favorite, because of its catchy beat and a sing along chorus.Jaguar is inspired by his childhood experiences to be a better person and achieve his dreams. His first single was utaweza kweli but  he has since produced many other singles including Furaha, Jina langu, Nimevuma amongst many others. Kigeugeu is Jaguar’s album thus far. He has won several awards including, 2011 Nzumari for Best male Artist, best Boomba artiste in the 9th Kisima awards, 2011 for his hit song Kigeugeu and an EAMAS Award for best artiste in Urban Contemporary category.

Jalang'o

When it comes to comedy, Jalang’o is indisputably one of Kenya’s comedy kings.  With his characteristic rib cracking Dholuo peppered jokes, he has managed to become a comedy icon in the country and build a name for himself. Jalango draws his inspiration from his father  who told him that one need not have everything to achieve their dreams.
Jalango cut his teeth in entertainment  six years ago when he bounced into the limelight as one of the pioneers of a school local TV show. He currently plies his trade as a leading actor in the popular TV show  Papa Shirandula and as a co-host in the Kiss 100 breakfast show.
His achievements include; being the White Ribbon Alliance Ambassador- for Safe Motherhood, advocate for maternal health and child mortality and the Amado Kenya Trust- Anti Jigger Campaign.

He says that the sky is the beginning and not the limit. You can expect some rib cracking moments during the Niko na Safaricom Live from this comedian for whom, everything is a laughing matter.

Size 8

Linet Munyali aka Size 8, is regarded as the most entertaining female artiste in the country today.  The Eastlands home grown star has continued to set trends in the music industry and soar high both in popularity and prowess.

In her first attempt to make a foray into the music industry, Size 8 tried auditioning for the popular Tusker Project Fame show but she was disqualified for being under age. Undettered, Size 8 walked into Calif Records where she was given the  opportunity to record her first single-Size 8-giving her career the much needed lift off.  . Her talent and sizzling looks make her one of the  most sought after female entertainers in the Kenya today..

She is also the founder of Smile Centre Foundation whose focus is helping the girl child. She has taken amazing strides within a very short period; acting in Shuga, Mashtaka, Plot 10 and Changing Times. She also hosts Sakata, a dance competition. She aspires to leave a lasting legacy and be the Female Music Face of Africa with her Urban Pop style.
