MTV LAUNCHES AWARD-WINNING ANIMATED KIDS PROPERTY, KIKORIKI IN AFRICA
MTV Networks International (MTVNI), today announced the acquisition of television and digital media rights to the multi award-winning animated kids property, Kikoriki, from Russian multi-media production, licensing, event and publishing organisation, Riki Group.
Effective immediately, MTVNI will represent the smash-hit series, Kikoriki (76 x 6.5’), which is also known as Smeshariki in Russia, across Central and Eastern Europe (excluding Russia), the Middle East, Africa and the Asia Pacific region (excluding Greater China) and will launch the property as part of the MTVNI portfolio at MIPTV 2011. As part of the agreement, MTVNI has also acquired rights to broadcast Kikoriki on Nickelodeon TV platforms in Russia and CIS, Central Europe and Africa from August 2011. The deal was brokered on behalf of MTVNI by Maria Rakhmatullina-Ufland, Sales Director, Emerging Markets, MTVNI.
Conceived in 2003 Kikoriki has been a huge hit for Riki Group in Russia where it is the most popular educational animation series for kids and families, achieving a brand recognition of 80% and reaching 75% of Russian households via FTA, pay TV and DTT platforms. The brand has proven to be equally successful off-screen: Kikoriki is one of Russia’s most popular consumer product properties with over 3,500 licensed products available at retail nationwide.
Targeted at kids 3-8 years old, Kikoriki follows a group of characters whose world is full of adventures. In each episode, the Kikorikis experience the most amazing things in the land of Kikoriki: they succeed in turning snores into energy, experiment with the funniest machines, discover the amazing power of dreams and even find a way to make the sun shine on a rainy day. Each figure is unique with an individual character and personal interests and together they work together to solve their problems in an unexpected, creative and funny way. Kikoriki is a world without violence or brutality; it’s a world of adventure that inspires taking a creative approach to life.
