A Kenyan film maker, Ms. Vincho Nchogu, is among the participants at this year’s Cannes Film Festival. Ms Nchogu’s short film “The Resurrect” got significant assistance in 2008 from the French cooperation, in the framework of the project “Plan Images Afrique” which aims to assist African film makers.
The film made it to the post-production stage and has been selected for the category “Cinémas du Monde”. This movie deals with political manoeuvres during elections organised in a little community where the young citizens of Kijiji are yearning for change.
Ms. Nchogu’s participation at the Cannes Film Festival has been made possible through operations organized by CulturesFrance, the French agency in charge of international cultural exchanges.
With the help of the French Embassy, she will take part in the “Short Film Corner,” the world’s largest platform dedicated to the short film format, to be held from 16th to 21st May. Her movie will be screened to the professionals and the journalists present in Cannes during the whole period of the event. The film will also be screened at the Alliance Française de Nairobi on 8th June 2009.
She will also participate in several professional workshops on film production and film development within the International Market.
Three representatives from the Ministry of Information and Communications, and one from the Kenya Film Commission, will also attend the Cannes Film Festival.
Meanwhile, the audiovisual office of the French Embassy is preparing an international workshop on film production in Nairobi, which will be held between the 9th and 11th June 2009. More information is available on: www.ambafrance-ke.org
