Lupita Nyongo gets full scholarship to Yale

Filmmaker and model Lupita Nyongo’s dreams of getting a degree in Theatre art was that much closer to being fulfilled on Monday when she finally made a decision and chose one from three prestigious American universities that had all accepted her application.
Lupita, the daughter of Medical Services minister Anyang Nyongo, applied in January for a three-year course. On Monday, she finally picked the Ivy League Yale from a choice of three including New York University (NYU) and University of California San Diego (UCSD).
Dorothy Nyongo, Lupita’s mum, said that her daughter, who is abroad, was ecstatic at the opportunity of being one of the 16 students that the university admits each year. Lupita also became the third African to be accepted into Yale and got a full scholarship.
Lupita was part of the Kenyan crew that shot Wahu and Bobi Wine’s video ‘Little Things You Do’ and emerged winners in the 2008 MTV Making The Video with Shell Contest.
Asked whom Lupita got the theatre gene from, Mrs Nyong’o said, “Her dad was in theatre but it’s her own thing.”

  1. congrats to Lupita, I saw her the other day on K24 and was quite impressed.

just a reminder though, she is the third African to be accepted into the Yale school of drama and not Yale University in general - there are already lots of Kenyans who've gone through Yale.
