Channel O GM gets a taste of matatu culture
The Channel O General Manager Yolisa Phahle was on a mission, one that would enlighten her on the Kenyan music culture and experience. She landed in the country on Tuesday night and by Wednesday her orientation was over. Yolisa had experienced Kenyan music first hand by riding in a matatu.
“The music gets you entertained,” she said, adding that she found it interesting the older passengers who rode in the matatu were okay with the loud music.
Her ride was in a No. 9 matatu to California, Eastleigh where she meet up with the producers from the Calif records stable and later made visits to Kijiji records and Homeboyz DJ academy.
During her visit, Yolisa managed to get three videos, which will be played on Channel O inthenext few weeks. The videos are those of rapper Madtraxx, Ukoo Flani and Kanjii Mbugua.
Yolisa revealed, eventually Kenya will have a full hour slot where strictly Kenyan tunes will be played back to back. She leaves the country today morning.
