LADYSMITH BLACK MAMBAZO BLAZE IT UP IN NAIROBI

Ladysmith Black Mambazo were in Nairobi recently and boy, didn't they blazed the trail?

Ladysmith Black Mambazo has performed for enthusiastic audiences throughout the world. Combining isicathamiya, traditional South African choral song, with traditional Zulu dance, the group has remained true to its roots and delivered a powerful message about the importance of honoring one’s culture. 

 The group who were in Kenya courtesy of telecommunication company Safaricon for the annual Classical Fusion. They have released more than 65 albums since their 1970 recording debut. In 1985, Paul Simon approached the group to collaborate with him on his Graceland album.

 The recording’s success encouraged the collapse of cultural  performance barriers, and introduce Ladysmith Black Mambazo and their compelling  presentation of indigenous music to larger audiences around the globe.

Joseph Shabalala, founder and leader of Ladysmith Black Mambazo, is an educator, composer, producer, bishop, board member for a number of developmental institutions as well as an artist.

To date Ladysmith Black Mambazo was nominated thirteen (13) times for Grammy Awards.

From 2010 to 2011 LBM will be celebrating 50th Anniversary (1960-2010), together as one, without any slip or conflict and the leader the  founder of the group celebrating 70 years old (1940-2010), he formed this group at an age of 20 years.
