K’NAAN’S TRIP TO KIBERA ON CANADIAN TV

Somali rapper K’naan visited Kibera as part of a Canadian TV series shoot. Here, he meet Salim Mohamed who runs a medical clinic and a community based development sports program involving over 4,000 kids.
The shoot was for a pilot reality series dubbed 4REAL, a series that takes celebrity guests on adventures around the world to connect with young leaders.
The half hour episode was debuted as the opening act for K'naan's first live concert at the Waterfront in Toronto. Proceeds from the show go into helping Salim’s worthy cause.
Other celebrities who have been featured in the 4REAL series include Cameron Diaz, Mos Def, Joaquin Phoenix, Eva Mendes, Casey Affleck and Flea of the Red Hot Chili Peppers.
Anyho, here is a video K’naan shot in Eastleigh (Somali Ndogo) when he was a refugee in Kenya dubbed Soobax (unity). The song potrays his anger at the never-ending war in Somalia, that has left him and many others refugees.

K’NAAN DEMANDS APOLOGY FROM SA TIMES

Somali rapper K’Naan defended himself on his twitter page after a South African paper branded him “difficult” to work with. K'Naan is asking for an apology and a retraction from the paper.
“I just read a Times Live article entitled "K'naan is difficult". A piece entirely based on the opinion of "an insider" who is never named. It's unfortunate when one of the biggest paper in South Africa can publish a rumor piece without ever qualifying any of their statements,” K’Naan wrote, “They claim that "the insider" says that I did not want to perform in Alexandra because "its too dangerous" actually, to be completely honest, I prefer playing in the townships cause I enjoy the energy and vibe… and to add insult to injury, we've never actually been asked to play a show in Alexandra. If the Times in Jo’burg has any journalistic integrity, they need to retract and publish an apology.”
